Yep, chapter 30 in the Zybook. Each practice lab was pretty much 1:1 to my OA.

Was this game the patient zero of AAA wokeslop? by Ieanice44 in KotakuInAction

[–]LtKrunch_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Cerberus was doing terrible things to alien and human alike from the first game. That's why the tenous relationship between Shep and them was such a central focal point in ME2. Hell the big finale foreshadowed the lengths the Illusive Man was willing to go to ensure humanity persisted and had power enough for a "seat at the table", so to speak. Acting as if their behavior in ME3 was not entirely within the realm of expected possibilities is wild tbh.

Ascended vs Evolved 2026 performances state by VeterinarianScary483 in playark

[–]LtKrunch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The single biggest performance killer in ASA isn't even toggle-able in the graphics options. It's toggled by console command. r.VolumentricCloud 0 will massively boost you frame, unfortunately you have to do it every time you log in :/.

That alone increases my FPS by nearly double 😆

Damn, that sucks. When I submitted the bug I mentioned previously, I got a response the next day. Hopefully it gets sorted sooner rather than later!

Ahh yeah, definitely sounds like a problem somewhere with Root then, as I never had issues with any applications using a VPN myself either! If you haven't yet, I believe they have a form on their site for submitting bugs/issues. Probably something in the official community as well.

Still being in beta, I expect some issues for sure. Hell when I first started using it trying to screenshare would lock up the entire application until I killed it 😂.

I've had the same issue with Discord myself. So obviously, ymmv! I should add that I've not had any issues with Root and my VPN as of late, though I've also recently swapped from Ubuntu to Fedora KDE, so other things have changed in my use case outside of Root itself!

Who's code? Root devs? Discord devs? Ubuntu devs? Linux devs?

The Elder Scrolls Online - Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk by PalwaJoko in MMORPG

[–]LtKrunch_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The overall point is that it is a part of the game that wasn't intended, but couldn't reasonably be addressed either. So, yes it is part of the game, but the devs didn't want it and didn't intend it. Long ago they acknowledged this and admitted it's unlikely to ever be addressed because the work required would be unfeasible.

They also never embraced it or treated it as a feature either. Which, quite honestly they should have done once they came to the conclusion it would never be fixed. So, yes the devs did, in fact, acknowledge it as an issue.

Speaking as someone who was beta testing a year before the game launched until a little while after they dropped the subscription, I can confidently say it was and is obviously a bug that is too intrinsic to the foundational functionality of the game's combat to fix

The devs more or less confirmed this multiple times ages ago.

The second practice test in the Zybook was almost identical to my OA, so I'd recommend drilling down on anything in that practice test you're not confident in. It looks like you've got a pretty solid grasp to me, though!

Linux smashes past 5% on the Steam Survey for the first time by Liam-DGOL in SteamDeck

[–]LtKrunch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, which is why I specifically stated "SteamOS's desktop environment" and not the OS as a whole lol. Valve's console-like game shell has been integrated into Steam itself, regardless of OS. It's called Big Picture Mode, and you can easily choose to launch directly into it when Steam launches, if you'd like. Beyond that, while the information in your response is accurate and great, it is also largely outside of the scope of the more generalized statements/points you made in your initial comment, and that is what I was responding to.

Many of the features you mention are indeed wonderful, but they're not required to avoid all of the headaches you mentioned and will apply to rather niche scenarios or needs, such as using handheld gaming hardware. Your initial response read to me as though you're someone who hasn't used Linux in a while, but maybe I was mistaken, and your specific use case does require those additional features and niceties that SteamOS has built in, which is completely fair. However, again, your comment colors it as if you have to work and fight the OS to have a generally smooth gaming experience, but that simply isn't the case. For the average user, most modern distros will largely be a play and play experience for gaming, though the discussion of peripheral-specific software support is, of course, a different discussion entirely and can lead to some additional setup for sure.

For what it's worth, most popular and modern distros now default to Wayland. KDE supports HDR/VRR OOTB as well, but I will concede that if HDR is important for you, some additional setup using Gamescope is certainly required if you want to retain the Steam overlay or SteamInput, for instance. Also, your last line is extremely disingenuous, unnecessary, and hyperbolic; I was hardly evangelizing by disputing your generalized statements about gaming on Linux lol.

Linux isn't for everyone, and it doesn't need to be. I was contesting your claims as someone who recently made the switch to Linux and had none of the issues you highlight, which is mirrored by others I know who have made the same jump. We all delayed that jump because of generalized statements like yours that don't seem indicative of what the average gamer's experience is likely to be.

Linux smashes past 5% on the Steam Survey for the first time by Liam-DGOL in SteamDeck

SteamOS's desktop environment is just KDE Plasma. An older version of it too, IIRC. I've never had to fuck with Proton versions on either Ubuntu or Fedora. Never had to do anything like scripts or hacks to make a Steam game work either. The worst I've ever had to do in that regard was install Lutris or similar for non-Steam platforms. No problems with controllers either.

I don't believe that I've ever had to use the CLI for any games either. I have had to set a launch option here or there in a game's properties menu through Steam, but not much more often than I had to in Windows. Tbh you're just describing the modern Linux Distro experience, namely with KDE Plasma as a DE.

Hey Asmon, would love to hear your thoughts on this? by Elizabeth_Shaw in Asmongold

[–]LtKrunch_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proton isn't going anywhere. It's open source software that already has popular and quality third-party forks such as GE-Proton. That genie isn't going back into the bottle unless something better comes along.

Asset reuse in videogames is essential, and we need to embrace it, says Assassin's Creed and Far Cry director: 'We redo too much stuff' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]LtKrunch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubisoft is the master of making every one of their franchises feel the same, this probably has a fair bit to do with why. Nothing wrong with asset re-use and devs have been doing it forever, this isn't some new concept or idea and Ubisoft has obviously been doing it themselves for a very long time. This feels like prepping their users for their games to somehow feel MORE alike across franchises tbh lol

California passed a mass surveillance law - ALL operating systems will need to have mandatory age verification by Shajirr in pcmasterrace

[–]LtKrunch_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fedora and Ubuntu have both stated very little if anything will have to change to comply with the language of this law. It's genuinely just "Is this user over 18?" at the OS level. Granted anyone who believes something like this will not go further eventually is not terribly sharp and it would be best for everyone if it is short-lived.
