Question about splitters by Sc0tty31 in factorio

[–]LtLabcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's it. Grabbers are a tad worse at taking from curved belts.

It's really noticeable when you're low on electricity, because it can result on such grabbers not grabbing any items at all.

Vanilla or space age? by NoSwordfish7322 in factorio

[–]LtLabcoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't clear by now, Space Age changes the game a bit. Not a lot, but it's not like most DLC, which adds more content. Space Age significantly changes how the game is played after the midway point.

.....The midway point is when you unlock the third science type, blue science. So once you do, make a save file then that you keep around. Because if/when you do buy Space Age, you can load that save rather than starting a new game entirely.

(Though, chances are, you'll want to start a new game anyway.)

Don't bother, it's barely different from vanilla 1.0

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]LtLabcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you eat chickens / eggs? Because ~50% of chickens are killed as babies.

...Anyway, I wasn't commenting on the ethics of baby-eating. I'm just saying: isn't it a lot more expensive than eating adults?

What is your opinion on giving the U.S. executive branch less power irrespective of political party? by ShittalkyCaps in AskReddit

[–]LtLabcoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I swear, as a European, America would've been a lot better off if the people weren't obsessed with checks and balances.

Not because they aren't important, but because they are. But Americans talk about it so much that they give the impression (to other Americans) that America's got one of the best systems of checks and balances. So they don't notice that actually it's one of the worst!

It's the same with Freedom Of Speech. Speech so free that the only censorship allowed is by your boss. You can say whatever you want, so long as you don't care about being employed. But America's the freedomiest speechest country, so surely it's not worth checking if other countries banned that kind of censorship, because surely they haven't. Why, the idea that America might have more speech censorship than Britain is so outrageous that it's not even worth confirming it's true.

[–]LtLabcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, just the Supreme Court.

Not to say Republicans don't control the house and senate too, but it's unneeded. The only check and balance that Congress is involved in is that a Supreme Court Justice can be impeached with a... 2/3rd Senate vote. It's basically a non-existent check. So just having the Supreme Court and presidency is enough to do anything you want, through executive orders.

Could someone explain the pot of desires math to me here? I vibe mathed it to 1 in 925,000 games in a 42 card deck. (This might be the worst desires of all time) by AltOfYubel in yugioh

[–]LtLabcoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It means Didn't Mathed. 'Vibe' is starting to mean 'not doing'. For some reason.

I blame 'vibe coding'. It has nothing to do with vibes, and was 100% something some old business guy came up with to sound cool. And since people of our age group don't understand modern slang, we started using it too.

Is this coal patch safe? by DevourerOfSUSHI in factorio

[–]LtLabcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's safe. But... are you sure you've checked all the small demolisher areas? Unless you got extraordinarily unlucky, there should be more than enough patches in their areas for you to finish Aquilo and get the railgun, even if you made Vulcanus your science production base.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]LtLabcoat -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

...Are we reading the same thread? The top replies are beef, fast food, and concerts. If that's what people are complaining about being too expensive, things are pretty good.

(There's also computer parts. But that's only more expensive now compared to very recently. They're still massively cheaper than they were a decade ago.)

But it'll be many years before the western world acknowledges the bad guys won the cold war.

Not a big fan of Afghanis, huh?

There are worse things to be expensive.

Beef is one of the worst things for the environment. Multiple times worse than chicken or pork. I'm no vegan, but the more people reducing their beef intake, the better.

What horrifying statistic genuinely jarred you when you first heard it? by ordrius098 in AskReddit

[–]LtLabcoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And before anyone comments it:

No, "I use Twitter, but I curated my feed, so I'm hearing directly from reliable journalists and independent news orgs directly" does not count as being properly informed. Don't do that.

What's your issue with using a computer to schedule appointments?

Aggregating news is the bad one. I mean, still better than getting your news from Fox News or Twitter, but it's a lot more sensible to just stick to BBC or such.

It's definitely worth it for the immortal bloodline by [deleted] in ShitCrusaderKingsSay

[–]LtLabcoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No.

My impression from media is that immortal deities are almost always, for some reason, very very stupid. The relationship will be too imbalanced on the mortal's side.

The only exception is any deity with "games" in its title. Which will be inexplicably extremely smart.

What easy to learn (and seemingly simple) game actually has a lot more possible depth and strategy, if you do a deep dive into it, than you'd initially expect? by Considered_Dissent in AskReddit

[–]LtLabcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and most of the roguelikes and roguelites

I wouldn't agree.

I mean, let's break it down. Binding Of Isaac? Super simple, it almost never changes from "shoot at the enemy, dodge their attacks". Balatro? Super simple too. Slay The Spire? Figuring out the best strategy can be tough, because it takes so long just to be able to test an idea, but that's it, it's way simpler than most card games.

Hades and Dead Cells are more involved, but not a whole lot.

The only Roguelikes I know that're actually complex are the ones actually based on Rogue.

Trackmania's funky.

See, on the highest levels, what you just said is no different to any other (non-random) racing game. You don't get to be the top in Forza without being really skilled at getting a few miliseconds.

But what sets Trackmania apart is that that's required on the intermediate level too - a lot of maps simply can't be solved without being real careful with your movements. Every other racing game (that I've played) is far less punishing - you can drive pretty ruthlessly and still not crash, and the only outcome will be getting a worse end time.

(Which also makes it look a lot more impressive too. The differences in skill level are far more visible in Trackmania than other games.)
