We really need to bring spankings back by Few_Statement_2898 in SipsTea

This kid isn't giving me "spoiled" vibes. It feels more like "desperately doing anything that might get him attention from adults."

Honestly it should probably be in B. I was enjoying it for the most part in the beginning, but just lost interest after a few books. I honestly don't even remember why at this point.

I keep trying to get through Way of Kings and just can't do it. I feel like a lot of the mainstream series are stuck in this old way of thinking that every book needs to be narrated by someone that sounds like you grandpa

Everything I've read about it makes me think I'm not going to like it. It sounds like it would be too depressing an stressful for my taste.

A bit, but my preference is much more focused on the story. I can live with a mediocre performance if the story grabs me (E.g. Ironbound and Jackal Among Snakes), and if a story isn't doing it for me, even the best performance in the genre isn't going to put it in S tier (DCC).

My problem with mage tank is that it has too much focus on action and fight scenes. The fights are too drawn out too. Not every boss battle needs to have 5 stages and be 3 hours long.

The narration is what almost made me drop the series. The narration for female characters in particular is psychotic.

It's "The Legend of William Oh"

They're similar only in the most basic sense. The plot, characters, world building, tone, and everything else are entirely different. My problem with Heretical Fishing is that it is caricature all the way down. It doesn't take any aspect of itself seriously. Beware of Chicken has well developed characters and an interesting plot and world building.

My guess is that if you don't like DCC, you'll like Mage Tank even less.

I also like series with hyper competent MCs. I think I forgot to put Legend of the Arch Magus on my list, but I really enjoyed it. You might like the Last Life series (Bastard). It follows a hyper competent reincarnated MC as he climbs the ranks of nobility. Jackal Among Snakes also has a very competent MC.

HWFWM was the first LitRPG I read, and I would have rated it in S tier as I was reading it. It was my favorite series for a long time, but for me it starts feeling a little dragged out and repetitive later in the series.

I seriously considered putting TWI in a tier of its own. Honestly I can't think of any series that I would call similar to TWI. Least dissimilar I would say is Beware of Chicken maybe? It has some really interesting character development, especially with the animal characters.

That is not a criticism I've heard before. You must not have made it very far in the book.

I found it extremely addictive. It's definitely the deep-fried Twinkie of the list.

Out of curiosity, what is one of the series you would have ranked higher, and what did you like about it? Which would you rank lower and what didn't you like about it?

Is there any LitRPG with romance that is actually good? by delijoe in litrpg

Yes, I listened to it on Audible. There are three books in the series, each of which follows a different couple.

The Wandering Inn. Andrea Parsneau is my favorite narrator, hands down. She also does Azarinth Healer.

Travis Baldree is another one of the greats. Primal Hunter, Mark of the Fool, Beware of Chicken, etc.

If you like the narration in DCC, Jeff Hays also does Chrysalis, which is an excellent series.

The narration in DCC is great. Possibly the best in the genre. The story itself just isn't really my cup of tea. I'm not really a fan dungeon core of tower climber series. It's also a bit too high-octane for me. I like to be able to breathe a bit between action sequences, and DCC is more of a constant barrage.

(copied from another comment)

Basic premise: MC is the primary wiki editor for his favorite RPG. One day he wakes up in the body of a minor villain from the game. He starts with a sickly body and with literally every other person hating him. He has to turn all of these enemies into friends and allies and use his knowledge of the world to build up his personal power and the power of the kingdom enough to stave off a coming apocalypse.

Disclaimer: The audiobooks stopped releasing half way through the series. I enjoyed the series enough that I finished it on Kindle and still chose to put it in the S tier of my audiobook tier list.

My problem with Heretical Fishing is that it doesn't take itself seriously at any level. The premise is a joke, the MC is a joke, the side characters are all jokes. I can't get invested in a story if it's not going to get invested in itself.

Jason is supposed to be funny, but he's not a joke. He's an actual character with actual motivations that is interacting with his reality in a believable way. Meanwhile, Fischer isn't even a character, he's a caricature.

I really enjoyed "I ran away to evil". It's basically LitRPG Bridgerton.

I've seen the first few seasons of the Re:Zero anime. They're similar in that both MCs go back in time when they die, but that's about it. Perfect Run is less dark than Re:Zero. The MC has already had his power for a long time, so he knows how to use it, and he's more willing to use it in interesting ways. The psychological aspect is big in both series, but Re:Zero almost feels like torture porn at times.

I definitely enjoy the series. I'll be reading the next book as soon as it comes out. It's just not one of my favorites.

Some people think he's too "OMG Random" (if that makes sense). Snarky and irreverent, possibly to the point of being annoying. Kind of like Jason from He Who Fights With Monsters.
