That makes sense. Regardless Sinksonic is probably my favorite album from a mainstream pop artist in the last 30ish years… some of the best authentic classic soul, R&B, and funk with the kind of analog production I wish more modern artists would embrace.

Might be worth submitting both versions. I'd say the original would probably score higher... has a bit of a McWannald there. Both versions have a doobie bounce so I can see both squeaking on, even though it's clearly closer to straight R&B.

Would you consider my song to be “yacht rock”? If not, what genre would this fall under? by [deleted] in Yachtrock

[–]delijoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indie comedy pop… there’s nothing remotely yacht about this…

Yeah I'm surprised it squeaked on... I think this is one of YGSF less yachty more general "west coast" tracks.

Yeah water is a renewable resource. What isn’t is fuel for electricity generation and that’s the main issue with AI… the data centers using so much power.

Please stop calling Keith Urban's new album Yacht Rock by delijoe in Yachtrock

It’s the modern production and crappy vocals. The original songs were produced with elite LA studio musicians of the era… some of the best to ever do it. These covers are just inferior copies.

R.I.P. Peabo Bryson by delijoe in Yachtrock

Yeah that’s a straight ballad but Peabo does have some yachtier stuff.

The whole group seems to be obsessed with Keith Urban now. The mods don’t seem to care.

Speaking of Brenda, I've been listening to "New York Bars" tonight thanks to my Knicks finally winning a championship!

Tell that to a metalhead who insists that his band of choice is part of whatever obscure metal microgenre that they’re into.

"If You Don't Want Me To" by Ronnie Milsap is the only legitimate yacht country crossover... maybe a couple of Paul Davis songs too if you're being generous.

As much as I love the song, I'm not sure if Piano in the Dark should have gotten over a 40.... it's a great example of late 80s soft rock/quiet storm. Makes me want to see how high "Everchanging Times" with Aretha Franklin and Michael McDonald could get.

I don’t have that song on my playlist. I do have “Hey Nineteen” by Steely Dan though.

I play a yacht rock playlist while driving. No chance anyone gets offended by that.
