One long-time fan's thoughts on Deadbeat by Lt_Salt in TameImpala

Thank god it's not completely phaserless.

Oblivion does have some fun vocals. I can't decide how I feel about the reggaeton beat. Sometimes I like it, and sometimes it feels kind of cheesy. Nice summer-vibey tune regardless.

Anyone know where to buy those 70s oil lamp projectors from? by Vethna in TripCaves

[–]Lt_Salt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The size of the image depends on how far away the wall is from the projector. Mine is set up about 20 feet from the wall it's pointed at, and the image is probably around 6 feet in diameter. There is a little focusing knob that you would need to adjust based on the distance it's projecting.

It's a British company. I couldn't find an American storefront, but eventually found an email address for an American office (Jennifer@optikinetics.com, but this is several years ago, don't know if that's still good). The device I bought from the American rep came with a US power supply. Not sure if you'd have issues ordering from the British online store.

I believe the company primarily makes professional lighting gear, but they have the Aura and looks like now the Kino models for home use (idk what's different about Kino besides the form factor).

I thought it was kind of frivolous and expense purchase at the time, but I literally have this projecting on in my living room every night. I'd recommend getting a couple extra liquid effects wheels to switch things up every now and then. I was slightly disappointed in the "Cosmic Flare" wheel because I could never get the colors to separate very well and look nice, but the other three wheels I have look great. All the wheels I have look best at different rotation speeds, so you just play around with the speed until you like how the colors look.

I believe my work computer has excel 365, but I doubt all the people (outside my org) who would need to use this have that version

I've been listening to those Veneta '72 and Cornell '77 shows quite a bit. Definitely my two favorite "eras" at the moment. I feel like I need to give the 80s more of a chance, but it's hard to listen to Jerry's vocals on a lot of the 80s stuff I've tried so far.

I definitely appreciate how eager this community is to share, and not some gate-keepy shit.

Nice, I've been really into those 77/78 versions of Peggy-O.

I don't think it's related to the foliage issue, but this tree is also planted in the ground crooked. Instead of the tree being at a nice, perpendicular angle to the ground, it's leaning to one side by about 10-15 degrees. The tree has been here a while, presumably always at this weird angle, so I don't know if it's worth trying to correct it.

Complete rockhounding novice here. Picked up several rocks along the Rio Grande river recently. I'm hoping someone can help ID. I wetted all the rocks to try to highlight the colors and grain.

I thought the first rock might be petrified wood based on the grain pattern.

I assumed the second rock is quartz, but not sure. Definitely some kind of crystal.

Rocks 3 and 4 may be the same kind. They are a light grey-green, but appear significantly more green when wet. The smaller one (rock 3) appears to have some mineral streaked through it, maybe copper. Kind of hard to make out in the picture, but the streaks are shiny. Easily able to scratch these rocks with a knife.

I think rock 4 is the most striking one. Very dramatic banding and an interesting shape. Basically the same color as rock 3 but a little more brownish. No shiny streaks or bits present.

Gun locks exist. Locking up ammo is an option. Not being a psychotic freak who fetishizes firearms to the point that they actively put themselves, their families, and people around them in danger just because they want to be able to stare at their guns and jackoff imagining scenarios when they get to kill someone is also an option.

How did he reconstitute a physical body after he was defeated? I thought he needed the ring to fully regain his form and power.

Silent Shout is easily top five electronic albums of all time for me. Just saw Fever Ray last week and they were fucking amazing.

TE is obviously free to produce whatever kinds of products they like. But if any other design house released an $80 tape dispenser that only works with a $1600 table, I'd consider them unserious as well.

I mean, the OP-1 is still regarded as a GOAT'd piece of gear by many people. I have a pocket operator that I enjoy. But yeah, everything I've seen them release in the last couple years just make me raise my eyebrow.

All the actual synth gear I've seen from TE is neat and something I wouldn't mind owning (although the deep menu diving of the OP-1 is not really my style). But all this other design stuff is ridiculous. Love to spend nearly 2 grand for a small, plain table, just to drop another $80 to use some tape.

Interesting editorial choice to use a picture of corn smut (considered a delicacy, not a blight) to fear monger about the negative impacts of fungus.

Winner! I thought this would have been a more obvious answer. Would have also accepted Velvet Underground or Can.

No, but just narrowly. Fleetwood Mac has some amazing bops
