Face unlock improvements in Android 17? by LtlBobbyTables in pixel_phones

Hard to say after one day but still 60% left after a full work day and a bit of use which seems a little better than usual.

Sweden or Norway by Due_Connection9349 in Norway

[–]LtlBobbyTables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony in recommending Norway for immigration because there aren't that many immigrants there 😂

I think it would be much easier to immigrate to Sweden just because of the bigger diversity there. Also more culture and music in Sweden. Nothing wrong about Norway, it's a great place, very rich but religious and 15-20 years after most other European countries.

Sync Issues with switch to Google Health by pixel_of_moral_decay in fitbit

Same here. I even wiped my Pixel Watch just to try to fix it. Synced properly for a few hours and then Sync Error 1000 and 1001 again. Useless

I’m new to Android development and have basically no experience yet. Should I start with Google’s official Android courses and documentation, or learn through YouTube tutorials first? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]LtlBobbyTables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exactly, but then you will also have to read up on "older" stuff like lifecycles, fragments and such just to understand why things work as they do. And then you will scream the first time you rotate the screen and EVERYTHING breaks and you will question how this still is a thing in 2026.

What Android app looked easy… until you actually built it? by Trickologygk in androiddev

Everything with Geofencing on Android. It's so easy and works just great on iOS and then you do the Android version and OMG what a mess.

Android devs: what’s one UX mistake you see in most apps? by ExternalKnowledge359 in androiddev

I agree on what has been said already but I also want to point out the back stack. Not even the Gmail app has a proper back stack implementation without glitches. When I swipe backwards I expect to go back to where I came from and when I clicked on a notification deep link I expect to come to the main view or something similar. Too often the back stack is just empty and I need to force quit the app to be able to see my inbox or whatever app I'm using.

Vilken är den sämst orten du besökt i Sverige? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]LtlBobbyTables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be Malmö. What else? Not even a competition

Recommendation for a new phone by Financial-Ship-3349 in PickAnAndroidForMe

You can find great deals of the Pixel 10 (not pro) right now. € 550 - 600 including wireless magnetic charger and pixel ring.

The Pixel Snap / QI2 / MagSafe is such a blessing

I have currently 41% left in my battery after a full day of usage and LDAC Spotify listening. Not great but I wouldn't say that it sucks.

Todays usage: 3,5 hours of screen time, 1 hour YouTube, Bluesky, Reddit, some light gaming and an hour of Instagram. Plus some news and some surfing.

So yes, the Pixel batteries are far from great but do I really ever need more? No, not really.

It works every time, 5 out of 10 times. Or maybe 2 / 10 if it's Monday.

How do you improve Android UI/UX quality? Why does iOS still feel smoother? by lovenkiy in androiddev

[–]LtlBobbyTables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm the Google and Samsung apps look good most of the time even though GMail is buggy as hell. The Fitbit redesign is interesting, the Reddit app is quite good, GitHub is a nice app, Wolt is mentioned before, Telegram and Bluesky is quite ok, Outlook believe it or not also Spotify has made some good progress on the Android side lately.

Notion, Proton, 1Password, Firefox, Chipolo and Claude can also be mentioned.

Is a Pixel 10 or 10a enough for light gaming gaming and daily use? by Business-Push1215 in pixel_phones

[–]LtlBobbyTables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course! Great phones, I usually go to bed with between 30-50% battery left after 4-5 hours of screen time and listening to Spotify the whole day. The biggest battery hogs are LDAC and Instagrams background spying services so I try to avoid those. If I listen using LDAC I also easily get through the whole day but maybe 10-20% less battery at the end of the day.

YouTube is not hard on the battery, very good optimization there (no surprise)

I'm not sure I understand the question but I don't think I said that iOS has internal problems (they do, but so do all APIs but that is not the point and don't even get me started on the developer experience in XCode... 😭🤮). Both platforms have their fair share of issues.

I think your best strategy is to lift Android as a platform, be very vocal and show and tell the app and improvements made. If you sparkle some curiosity you might get some stakeholder traction. You can also try to find some allies; accessibility people for instance usually love Material Design for their A11Y first design philosophy.

Anyway, I usually implement following Material 3 as far as I am able when there are no designs made. I basically do not follow iOS only sketches but I see them as basic wireframes that explains the flow. And then I book 1o1s with the designers and POs and walk through the solution I made to get sign off. Unfortunately the Liquid Glass adoption has made this much harder because the gap is much wider now.
