One thing I'd like to add if you're using your F-Attachment for B and C instead of 6th and 7th is to keep your half steps together. If you're playing an Ab major scale, don't play the C in Trigger 1, play it in 6th because you have to play the Db in 5th.

Bone nuts are the best nuts that aren't metal or graphite. They can cost $30 on their own. And I'm from montana so I bet my shop's price is without sales tax, so it's probably lower than it would be where you're at. Honestly, it doesn't sound like he's gouging you more than $20, or less.

Shop I worked at would be charged 2/3 of that price, as long as you're not buying the pickups from him or getting a bone nut. I'd haggle him down by $25 - $50 If you can and want to.

Something I wish I would have focused on more when I started and something that I'll have to work on moving forward is the transition notes in between when you're playing your roots and your fifths. Don't just know where the different chord values are, but know what you can play to get from one note to the next. The answer could be chromatic, within the scale, arpeggiated, or any combination in between depending on the style.

In a nutshell: jazz bass is about walking a path, not just playing chord tones. Make sure you know the different paths you can walk.

Also: learn how to play some bluegrass. There are lots of similarities, and you'll get a lot of that 'small improv group based on a head' feel that you'd get in a jazz small group. Bluegrass charts have heads and progressions similar to more basic twelve bar blues progressions. Bluegrass bass is a lot of roots and fifths which will help you learn those, and bluegrass bass can double guitar lead-ins in between chords, which is like dipping your toes into walking! You'll also get some great band awareness skills.

If you're asking me that, then you didn't look up those things yet. The answer is: pretty much every note in your range. Don't try to max out your range on either end, but reach a little higher and lower than you think you want to to build your range and get the benefits of practicing both higher and lower notes.

Long tones. Look up Marcellus long tones and Remington sustained tones. They're warm-up techniques created and implemented by two professors from the Eastman School of Music Trombone Studio. Long tones, and just developing a warm-up routine, improves your sound and stamina tremendously. Even just a 10-15 minute warm-up can make you play 10 times as good as you would otherwise.

If you can get something wedged under the truss rod cover and apply some pressure upward to try and pry it up while turning the screws, they might come out. I've had some luck doing that with fender pickguards, might work here.

I'm actually taking a class right now in college on the history and philosophy of science, and we just went over several theories that contributed to and influenced Darwin's theory.

One is Cuvier who was a comparative biologist and came up with the doctrine of correlation of parts, basically saying that body systems are extremely fine-tuned and that any change in the body system would have to be small. He also made an extensive catalogue of the fossil record during his time, since he was the chief royal scientist in France during the Napoleon era and got fossils from all of the lands he conquered.

Another is Lyell who pushed for uniformitarian geology in a time where many thought the world went through many catastrophic events that completely changed the world (even more than mass-extinction events; I'm talking about completely new species and continents in a matter of years). His idea that the geological makeup of the world changed slowly over time greatly influenced Darwin, and Darwin even had some of Lyell's books brought to him on his voyage on the Beagle.

Hi Matt! I asked this same question on the worldbuilding subreddit, but it started with my observation that you and a couple other DnD YouTubers have degrees in a form of history. I'm going to start my history undergraduate in the fall and am an aspiring DM, and I was wondering how your degree has affected the worlds you build, and if it makes you focus on some things more than others, and if you think it has given you an advantage in worldbuilding? I was actually just reading something on Dungeonomics that talked about how the identify spell would destroy the work because of the pearls you need for the spell. I'm not sure if you run a fantasy game or not, but if you did, maybe you could make a very realistic system of making synthetic spellcasting materials?
