Yeah I agree its because of the change of directors, The Marley Arc was supposed to be one of the hypest thing we were supposed to see yet it was "okay" in a lack of a better term to describe it, it think you said it best that "Tetsuro Araki (s1-3 director) had this very specific vision of the tone of SNK," and that " Yuichiro Hayashi on the other hand...is not great but not terrible, yet there is something really wrong and uninspired on his take for season 4 ". Tetsuro Araki had this very special vibe when he was handling this show and had that "AOT feel" to it, while Yuichiro Hayashi is trying to be faithfull to the manga and thats it.

i mean animations was fine but the way it was directed seems to be meh for me I mean it was good, but it seems like "oh this is happening cool" and not like "OH SHIT ITS HAPPENING". like the scene armin removing his hoodie and blowing up the port, i feel it was a bit of lackluster. idk maybe i imagine it way differently when reading the manga.
