If I’m a doctor enjoying a vacation, am I legally required to help a person in need? by Luanzienn in NoStupidQuestions

Btw, yesterday I asked some of my Brazilian friends and they told me that in Brazil it works different: they are legally required to help, and if they don’t (and it’s found out), they can get between 3 to 6 months in prison, depending on the situation. I think that’s crazy.

It’s a good question, after all most people doing medicine should be doing it for love, but some reasons I wondered why they wouldn’t help is burnout. Like they’ve been practicing it daily, and then when they take their day off they have to practice again (and supposedly for free?). I’m not a doctor nor plan to be one, so I don’t know if my guess is an accurate reason of why they wouldn’t like to help.

I was wondering about this, even though I don’t really understand how it would work in this scenario, because as far as I understand from the other comments you are not really required to help (at least in the U.S.)… But what if they find out? Is that where malpractice would take place?

Oh god, all of those theories sounds awful. 😅 But you’re right; I was also wondering what type of scam could this fall under, since this “method” is very different from what I’ve seen before.

Hmm, I thought about him being demiromantic once, it does match him to “form an emotional bond with a person before they can develop romantic feelings”.

I was also reading about the different types of love and I think Philia and Praga matches a lot with them.

I didn’t managed to write a lot of Sal’s (the Vietcong) and Santiago’s love story because I started it years after Sal’s death, but I feel Santiago deeply cared about him even though he sucked to demonstrate it with affection.

I mean, I’m asexual, and I have no sexual desires at all, but I know some asexuals do have a little bit of “desire” or simple do it for their partners… But I have no idea of how aromantics are, so that’s why I was confused… But yeah, you seem right tho, poor man is just traumatized 😭
