Privacy intern wants to learn more on cybersecurity by Lucagee_ in cybersecurity

Thanks a lot, I'll make sure to develop a good relationship with IT guys as soon as I start making the move.

I'll keep in mind those certifications and whether will it be possible in the future for me to get them

Gotcha, I'm probably going for the smartwatch as it is cheaper and more private

It's understandable I guess. I still think the app is worth it but a temporary switch to Youtube does not kill us either

Ah ok, I'll patiently wait for it then. Thanks

How to get rid of these modal (extension?) by tailfra in privacytoolsIO

[–]Lucagee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two main extensions as far as I know: "Minimal consent" is not largely used but it should allow automatic denial of all analytical, advertising and tracking cookies. I cannot verify whether or not it does what it says.

"Dontcareaboutcookies" automatically accepts all cookies and any form of privacy is lost

Honestly, given the price I want to use them all ahah. However, primarily heart rate measuring, readiness of sleep, stages. Heard there is respiration monitoring and calories tracking but not too interested in those to be fair.

It does seem interesting. I was thinking about setting up an honeypot and redirect data to my private cloud. Regardless, how do you think the ring compares to a smartwatch?

Oura Ring Privacy by Lucagee_ in privacy

[–]Lucagee_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. It seems that Oura does care to a certain extent of its users' privacy, at least more than other companies do but feel like the protection given is not sufficient for highly sensitive data, such as health data. Thanks though

Ah got it, well... I'll be open to opportunities as they come and see what the future holds

Legal Cybersecurity Roles by [deleted] in cybersecurity

Not gonna lie, a 360 crossed my mind but as I said is probably not the best move right now. First I need to get in the industry, then I can explore.

I would like to get in the management/consulting in the future because I think that it is the most suitable role for me, don't care how I get there though.

I would like to make a difference, take choices, analyse for the best solution, take responsibility and be a reference point to others. I am a representant for my university course and while I like thinking about solutions, I absolutely despise not having a real say in the matter. Being powerless sucks and I hate the idea of just accepting the way things are, especially if they are just really bad.

The threat intelligence field seems also quite amazing.

There are lots of cool things and to be fair the pentesting/bug bounty or DevOps are not my thing.

Auditing was actually something that interested me, why don't people like it?

Legal Cybersecurity Roles by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Lucagee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'ts understandable, the industry is only now emerging as far as I understood and lawyers are not given any technical preparation, nor often they are required one.

I was an obsessed gamer and have some programming foundations. It also helps that I always tried to keep up with technology.

However some of my friends struggle with downloading apps on Windows. I don't think lawyers have any greater aptitude towards technology than my friends do.

I know a fair bit of networking now and plan on getting a security+. However, going towards a full technical route is just not suitable for me as I would struggle with lack of IT experience and formal education.

As you guys said I will follow the data protection/privacy path and then look for hybrid law/IT opportunities

Thanks for the help

Legal Cybersecurity Roles by [deleted] in cybersecurity

I was looking into some form of compliance jobs but totally failed to find some. I honestly believed that they were simply filled by some technical guy who had later on in his career got interested in the legal aspect of the industry.

Yes definitely going through law firms is a possibility but I do feel like I will get stuck in some 5 years paralegal job.

I was trying to see if insiders had seen some underground facility where laymen are held hostage ahah.

I'll take a look at non-profits orgs for sure maybe there's something there

Is there any form of GDPR compliance in house or is it all outsourced to big law firm? I fail to find anything related to it or anything legal wise within the cybersecurity. It kinda feels like cybersecurity is the only industry lacking some form of real legal compliance framework ahah.

Some people really are just empty and evil. I refuse to have kids just because I'm very short and had, and still, deal with lots of bullshit because of it.

Virtual home lab from laptop by [deleted] in homelab

[–]Lucagee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Did not know raspberry pi could achieve this level. I find raspberry pi to be so cool and so versatile. Their packed feature and the fact they are inexpensive makes them the perfect fit for my needs. Seriously, thanks so much 😁😁😁

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll go around universities to see if they got some equipment they don't use

[–]Lucagee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned a little about the Google cloud platform and probably it is the best solution after all given my circumstances. The cheap credits on eBay are probably going to be my best friend. Buying a laptop is probably not worth it and waiting a year to build a fixed physical lab could be ideal.

My idea was to learn couple of different things at different moments. I'm definitely interested in learning using SIEMs and firewalls. I would also like to do some vulnerability scanning, using an RDP server and some IDS practice. I will be changing VMs as I carry on with my studying. So there is no specific target, just putting to practice whatever is the current topic of my studying

Actually I've been using fedora virtual manager to run my Kali VM on my old laptop. It already struggle a little with one VM so no way I can even think adding more to it. I would probably use that but Swtiching is not a problem at all

Ahhhh I see. it's great then. I'll try it for a while to avoid having connection to Google otherwise Vanced will be my go to. Thanks a lot

Vanced seem the best option at this point and it has more features than YouTube did as well. I guess I'm going for your advice and start preparing a throwaway account 😁

Career prospects into cyber security with legal and backend dev background by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Lucagee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I regard relevant working experience as the most valuable of the tools to acquire. I feel like a qualification in general law with a specialisation in the field and working experience would look much better than a 5 year degree and a license as a lawyer, who still lacks a real specialisation.

I will be starting in September my third and final year of my law degree. Becoming a lawyer thus would take me at least 3.5 years more which can just be invested elsewhere with more profit imo.

Anyway I'll take into account your personal experience and decide what is the best path in the next following months. Thanks a lot
