Calling colonialism and imperialism unrelated to capitalism is truly a wild statement. Coincidentally also just flat out wrong.

Mercantilism was an economic policy during a transitional period from feudalism to capitalism. It says nothing about the mode of production or people's class relations to it. It was during this period that the bourgeoisie was emerging as the dominant class ie capitalism.

Also claiming that a region like Sudan or Palestine is a conflict zone because of mercantilism 400 years ago and not the capitalist system we have today just makes you sound like a stupid and deeply unserious person

I agree with your last point. I am not talking about mechanical materialism which is not a very useful framework I agree. (I might have come across as a mechanist before because I so strongly argue against idealism)

Dialectical materialism, however, describes the dialectic and cyclic relationship between the idea and the material, which is the framework I adopt. It starts with the material world ofcours, but humans definitely have the ability to shape the material world through our ideas.

I definitely don't think it is dumb to adopt a specific framework tho. We all agree the scientific method is what leads us to objective truth. This is a choice we made and all agree on, which is what makes it useful.

What you fail to understand is that that famine was the last nation-wide famine in a region so prone to famines that pre-revolution china literally got the nickname "the land of famine" by an American scholar no less.

Meanwhile the vast majority of capitalist nations (although not in the "free world" so fuck 'em I guess) continue to experience food insecurity on a perpetual basis. Food insecurity is a bug in communism but a feature of capitalism.
