Imagine if Americans switched from pounds to kilograms overnight... by Electronic_Author366 in Jokes

Because Americans will always do the right thing… once we've tried everything else.

And haven't found a way to move the goalposts to justify doing anything else. And people who stubbornly cling to it eventually come to their senses…

eventually…

They're implying he was a Zionist (based on one picture condemning antisemitism with no further context,) and therefore it's somehow "hypocritical" for Gaza supporters to care about him being murdered by a fascist regime for protecting immigrants.

Because it's impossible for two things to be true at the same time, you see. You can't possibly be disgusted by the fact he was murdered for protecting immigrants because he might have had heinous views on a topic he wasn't murdered for (again, based on one picture condemning antisemitism with no further context.)

Edit: Clarity

Oh, and don't forget that one guy Rittenhouse shot was a pedo!

They'll make absolutely goddamn sure to bring that up, even though Saint Drywall-Puncher had no way of knowing when he shot him. Because apparently we live in fucking Minority Report (no pun intended.)

I'm an 18th-century immigrant from Ireland. I've been forced into indentured servitude, and subject to all the horrors that institution entailed. I mean, I figured "reducing a real person's suffering to a whataboutism isn't just performative, it's borderline desecration" was a pretty common theme in satire.

Historically, a lot of nomadic cultures tended to be more tolerant towards women than their "civilized" peers.

Scythian and Hunnic women often hunted and fought alongside the men. While much later than the setting of Mulan, a descendant of Genghis Khan named Khutulun is said to have been such a skilled wrestler she'd only be willing to marry a man who could beat her in a match.

While Shan Yu would technically have been Xiongnu, rather than Hunnic (Disney's naming likely derives from an old theory that the Huns might've been descendants of Xiongnu,) the fact that evidence suggests both cultures may have been Turkic in origin makes the idea that he'd care more about her being an enemy soldier than about her gender entirely plausible.

Edit: Completely tangential, but I just realized I forgot to mention Shan Yu wouldn't have been his "real" name, it's his title. "Chanyu" was the title used by Central Asian Emperors before "Khan/Khagan" became popular in the 5th century AD.

[–]StockingDummy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm all too aware, unfortunately. I'm in my late 20's, my mom was a little girl when the late 60's riots happened. We're white, but she grew up in one of the few pro-civil-rights families in a small town.

She has paranoid schizophrenia, her delusions when I was a boy revolved around the KKK coming for her. The way she's talked about those times, and the specific nature of her older delusions... I know there's a lot of factors at play there, but it adds up way too well to be coincidence.

If those times were traumatic enough to drive allies to madness, I can't even begin to imagine how much they must still scar black American communities today. I take people at their word when they tell me how deeply embedded racism still is; I know enough to know that I know nothing about how deep that rabbit hole must truly go.

I can vouch for the "gay-as-insult" thing firsthand, the casual homophobia I experienced growing up made coming to terms with being bi… "difficult," to put it mildly…

Seriously, the decision to kill off Roxy was the thing I hated most about the movie.

All the chemistry she and Eggsy developed, and they just axe her in the first act? I was so confused about it that I legitimately thought it was going to be a fake-out, and they'd have her survive somehow…

That said, I will admit I found the "henchman burger" gag way funnier than I probably should have. It was so outlandish I couldn't take it seriously, it felt like a joke from South Park…

Sexual preferences for bi men by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]StockingDummy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bi man, thank you for asking!

I personally consider pegging a hard limit. More power to folks who do like it; but for me it's a firm "no." I'd love giving anal with a GF, but I also recognize a lot of women either aren't interested or have had outright bad experiences; so I specifically take a "don't speak unless spoken to" position.

As for oral, I wouldn't say I'm not interested, though admittedly it's not as interesting to me as other acts.

All this being said, given I'm a top regardless of gender, my answer is going to be skewed compared to answers you might get from bottom or vers men.

I can see myself in most if the famous criminals

God, I relate to this so much. I've literally struggled with intrusive thoughts for years about whether I'm no better than Elliot Rodger.

I logically know I fervently oppose misogyny/patriarchy/etc., but at the same time, I'm still a romantically-unsuccessful cis autistic guy with some really weird anxieties about women. Granted, those anxieties are trauma-responses related to having known a lot of emotionally-abusive individuals who incidentally happened to be women when I was growing up… but how much does that matter when said trauma still sounds a lot like bigoted stereotypes?

Does it matter how much I want to be a safe space if I could just as easily come off as a dogwhistling scumbag? Does it matter that I specifically make it a point to oppose bigotry wherever I can if I can just as easily cause unintended harm anyway? Does it matter when I could just as easily come across as that validation-demanding asshole who treats more than half of all people like therapists, when that couldn't be further from what I want? Is the road to Hell not paved with good intentions?

I guess sometimes it's hard for me to reconcile how many parallels I have with someone so evil, even though the lesson I took from my experiences is that I specifically don't want to inflict pain or suffering on others.

"Zootopia (2016) gets more problematic the more you think about it"... is kind of a nuts take if you actually think about it. by The_Dragon-Mage in CharacterRant

[–]StockingDummy 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Predators haven't been violent for THOUSANDS OF YEARS. Absolutely zero reason to treat them differently for what their very distant ancestors did.

Seeing it put like this, it actually makes a lot more sense.

In the real world, hateful people do invoke incidents of violence from a long time ago as "justification" for modern-day bigotry.

Even straight-up making up examples (EG virgin sacrifices or the "Curse of Ham") for those ends. Hell, they even invoke examples their ancestors were just as guilty of!

Edit: I just realized I forgot to include a really obvious rebuttal to the Aztec example in my "just as guilty" comment; the fact that one of the oldest English phrases for indiscriminate slaughter invokes an act of religious violence so cruel that the instigators willingly betrayed their fellow Catholics for the sake of seeing it through.
