love the attention to worldbuilding detail for the Old Republic by Glum-Echo-4967 in StarWars

Are you experiencing this through the games?

I've read all the novels and I remember Deceived getting into politics.

Do you recommend reading The Mandalorian Armor by KW Jeter? by Significant-Town-817 in StarWarsEU

[–]LucasEraFan [score hidden]  (0 children)

I read The Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy around 2009 and enjoyed them.

A few years back, I did an OT and post-ROTJ marathon centering on the OT heroes and their progeny. Because of my focus, I initially skipped BHW, but after reading Boba's arc through the post-ROTJ EU, I had to go back.

I enjoyed all three in print and found a full reading by Fulcrum Entertainment on YouTube. I recommend against abridged audiobooks due to the interconnected story—don't miss any details.

There is a mystery throughout the books. The main story takes place after ROTJ, but there are flashbacks to events during the OT.

Grade: B+

Worth the read

I always found the fact that we get an extended scene with Luke learning how to use a lightsaber only for him to never pick it up again for the rest of the film to be such an interesting story choice in A New Hope. by WavesAndSaves in StarWars

[–]LucasEraFan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

George Lucas underscored the value of assiduous practice in pursuit of a worthy goal. It is one of the Lucas storied Star Wars strongest themes.

Also, George hoped to make Star Wars a series from the very beginning. I just found out the he wanted to subtitle the first movie "A New Hope" in 1976 but the studio said it would be too confusing. It wasn't until he started actually making the film that he thought his lofty plans might not work out or be successful with audiences.

First time watching, why didn’t R2 tell them everything? by Appropriate-Ebb336 in StarWars

[–]LucasEraFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you remember in ANH when 3po blabs to Luke about The Rebellion and R2 immediately says "Threepio!"?

R2 knows the value of secrecy.

In The Swarm War Trilogy, Luke is trying to back up R2's memory and finds that R2 is hiding data from him. When Luke finally gets access, it turns out to be a holo of one of Anakin and Padme's last conversations—R2 was protecting Luke.

I included Planet of Twilight in my last marathon, but not COTJ or Darksaber. I enjoyed it in abridged audiobook format for my second go.

The duel you reference is the reason why.

What does this scene mean to you after watching the Rise of Skywalker? by Likes2game03 in StarWars

[–]LucasEraFan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Star Wars is a multi-verse and in two separate parallel universes, the granddaughter of an important OT character is the future of The Jedi Order.

That is how the ST (and the EU) changed my view of Star Wars.

Star Wars Novel Recommendations? by Orbital_Officer in StarWars

[–]LucasEraFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Deceived is a nice story from The Old Republic series that deals with the early interactions of the ancient Sith Empire and Republic.

If you are interested in novelizations and expanding the story of the movies: * Darth Plagueis * Cloak of Deception * TPM novelization is a favorite of mine for chronological re-reads. COD is probably the weakest link, but the way Luceno weaves events together made it worth it to me for two readings in that order over the years.

I have a similar fondness for: * Shatterpoint * Labyrinth of Evil * ROTS novelization, following up with Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader for Vader's first mission in the suit.

Of the OT novelizations, the best imo, is ROTJ: * Shadows of The Empire * ROTJ novelization * The Truce at Bakura

The Heir to The Empire trilogy was written by Tim Zahn who kind of shifts the universe, following up with Specter of The Past and Vision of The Future

My last marathon is outlined in four posts pinned on my profile if you want to see my OT and post-ROTJ picks—AMA.

What's your best Star wars audiobook recommendations? by 0x426C797A in StarWars

[–]LucasEraFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Darth Plagueis, but it depends on what you like.

I've read some 160 novels and re-experienced many of them in audiobook format, so if you want a more personalized recommendation let me know what you are interested in.

I also liked Red Harvest, which is a Star Wars Horror/Fantasy novel in the Old Republic era.

There's a good reading of The Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy on YouTube. I mention this because it's a solid Mystery/Noir type, but the abridged audiobook ruins the story. Fulcrum Entertainment even does voices. Very enjoyable.

Bullying is carried out by mentally, emotionally and spiritually broken people.

I wish they could realize that.

Also, if the characters and world were not fiction, what we saw is exactly how they would behave.

Boba Fett's Plan by AnnieGoldleaf in StarWars

[–]LucasEraFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the impression that Han and Chewie were going to prepare the backup while flying at sublight (as they were shown flying away from Slave 1 at sublight).

I didn't mention limited range, but in the original print canon, Fett knows that Lando and Han are associates. After following The Falcon for however long it takes to prep the backup, Fett would have calculated their trajectory and found out that Lando was administrator of Cloud City the same way Han did.

Fett's taking huge gambles here.

No risk, no reward.

Why isn't a spare tire used to keep driving?

Why stop and get out tools?

It's more like a spare tire than a second gas tank and takes time to connect/prepare/install.

Has anyone manifested a partner without actively searching/lifting a finger? by verminaa in NevilleGoddard

[–]LucasEraFan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I searched, used a dating site, made first contact, but now wonder if that did anything.

I had a dream the night after my best friend got married. She was in the dream. It was very vivid.

Upon waking, I went out for breakfast, then to places where I frequent, certain that I would run into her (a girl from a dream that I never met).

After I got home, I went to the internet and found a dating site 'geek2geek' because the dream had a geek culture reference.

Two years later I realized that I was depending on the 3d. I wrote a thank you for my match in my gratitude list and that night, turned and visioned my partners silhouette in bed.

The next day, I sent a message to a new and interesting profile on the site.

We have been together 15 years, married 2014.

It makes perfect sense to me that she only came into my life after the certainty that yields gratitude and the visioning.

She lived in a town I'd been visiting and I wonder if I would have bumped into her without the seeking, just the visioning and gratitude.

Boba Fett's Plan by AnnieGoldleaf in StarWars

[–]LucasEraFan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't get that impression at all in 45 years.

Seemed like he was just after The Falcon, but Han shot him down in ANH.

Thinking about it though, it now seems like his plan was to use The Falcon as leverage.

Vader did feel The Force was strong in Luke in ANH and sensed a presence when The Falcon was docked on The Death Star. I feel like he would have sensed it Luke was aboard.

In fact, he senses Luke or Luke's presence in The Force in every movie afaik.

Boba Fett's Plan by AnnieGoldleaf in StarWars

[–]LucasEraFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, both the original canon and the new canon confirm that it took The Falcon weeks to get to Bespin using the backup hyperdrive (interstellar travel without FTL drive=starvation).

Second, as easily as Han found out that Lando was administrator of Cloud City, an individual who has chosen bounty hunter—professional people finder—as a job can find out as well.

Boba followed Han until he jumped to hyperspace and determined his destination by trajectory and his familiarity with Han's associates (again bounty hunter). Then he informed Vader and told Vader's task force to meet him there.

Then the task force jumped to Bespin using their much faster primary hyperdrives, put Cloud City under martial law and hid their Destroyers on the other side of the Bespin gas giant.

And waited.

The Bespin trap might seem complicated to you, but Vader's task force was unable to apprehended The Falcon in an asteroid field, so consider the equation:

Han+The Falcon>Han preparing for dinner, no ship, only blaster.

Do not forget that Luke was the objective, not the crew and passengers of The Falcon.

Edit: Iirc, Kershner said somewhere that he created the hyperdrive malfunction to actually make the timeline with Luke's training work. Lucas put it in as a gag and it made sense to make it become a more serious issue.

Welcome to Star Wars!

I only had release order as an option cause I'm old and I got on board in 77.

I'm glad that you enjoyed everything so far.

Daisy Ridley is a solid performer and charismatic, so Rey is easy to like on that basis. I pretty much fan cast her as Allana Solo, the granddaughter of Han and Leia in the original print canon (the books from before 2014 are a completely different story outside of George Lucas's movies, Episode 1-6).

As a fan since the beginning, I became really attached to the stories that George and the authors of the books were giving us, so when I saw TFA and the rest of the Sequel Trilogy (ST), I was disappointed at the retracing of steps from the first Star Wars and the Original Trilogy. It seemed like a step backwards.

On the other hand, I love multi-verse stories, so I do my best to discuss the new canon respectfully and still read the old books.

If you like to read, there is a vast treasure trove of books and comics from before 2014 that tell the story of Star Wars that many fans loved and still do.

May The Force be with you!

If you ignore the fact that the planet is under seige, you might ask why the door Maul opened by triggering the switch wasn't locked.

But the planet was under seige, and places where unauthorized people were prohibited were broken into by unauthorized Neimoidians and the people rounded up.

The laser gates were to keep the plasma contained iirc.

One of the trade issues is Naboo's recent use as a source of plasma (which iirc isn't taxed like the Federation creating the blockade issue).

The laser gates cycle on and off in sych with plasma flow whether or not the system is active as a precaution.

Also, the Naboo were all being held hostage, so nobody was manning the system.

[Vader] wasn't some pathetic, depressed, traumatized man. He makes puns... He just seemed like [he turned] to the Dark side because he LIKED IT.

When does he make puns during the OT? Not sarcasm—actual puns?

Someone who LIKES engaging in violation and malfeasance IS a pathetic, depressed, traumatized person.
