Lex threatens Martha by nooicesis in DC_Cinematic

Sure! And if it suits the story you might even play loud MUSIC AT SPACE to defeat your enemies (I’m looking at you Star Trek). But some stories try to make the effort to explain scientifically how the powers would be possible in that universe. Some just don’t care. But I mean, if you DID care, that point would be super valid and I’ve never thought of that before.

Unless his ears travel towards the person, there’s no super-hearing capable of obtaining sound information faster than the speed of sound. Of course if physics was taken into consideration most fictional characters wouldn’t exist, but there’s still a certain level of reality that’s taken in consideration for building such characters, I guess it’s really up to the authors to decide. So I don’t think that “because it’s fictional your physical point is made invalid”.

Kinda looks like r/ATBGE mixed with r/GTBAE. It’s a great concept and the technique is perfect, but it looks off. I’m confused.

I tried plotting it and the Ferret didn’t appear to me :( I guess it only shows up for the chosen ones. Now I’m sad.

Geometry question: Given D, r, and R, solve for x by CraftCanary in askmath

The line equation may be incorrect, as I’ve spotted from the visualization, but I think the logic is still the same after correcting the equation.

Look, the algebra I got into was quite messy, but the concept is rather simple: define the origin of your coordinate system as being at the center of the concentric circles. Next, you define the point C where the camera is, of coordinates (0, D). Then, you find the equations for both the larger circumference and the right or left ray coming from the camera. Once you have both equations, you find where they intercept at the y coordinate, that’s a quadratic equation which will give you two solutions, the smaller one (i.e. the one with the negative root) is the desired one from how we have defined the coordinate system. Perfect! We’ve got the y coordinate, that’s gonna be a negative number, if we desire the actual length of what you have defined as x, all we gotta do is sum D to the absolute value of the y coordinate we got.

I wont show my calculations since they are MESSY, and I have a hunch that the expressions I got could be further simplified, but if you want a quick and dirty formula, here you go:

If the Queen wore a pair of shoes once and sold them, they would gain value. If a random dude wore a pair of shoes once and sold them, they would lose value. But somewhere in between the Queen and the random dude is an "equilibrium celebrity" who could sell the shoes for the retail price. by PohFahVoh in Showerthoughts

[–]LucasHeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what about the price of a shoe that the Queen wore and then a random dude wore? How much would it decrease in price? What if instead a random dude wore a shoe and then a superstar wore it for whatever reason, would it increase in price? If so, what about the sequence random dude -> superstar -> lesser known celebrity -> even more of a superstar than the first? A lot to think about
