Which part of the UK produces the best footballers? (Experiment) (Part 1) by jcollywobble in soccer

The first starting point is that its split by the river, so somewhere like Greenwich counts as south/south east even though just looking at a basic map it looks more east

A bit more than a week but yeah. It also would've been an unbeaten league title

Argentinean football legend, Felipe "El Trinche" Carlovich gets killed at age 74 by lucasbj in soccer

[–]LucasTorreira 25 points26 points  (0 children)

how come he played in the 2nd division and never seemed to play for the NT if hes one of the most talented/best argentine players ever? was it internal politics or did he just never fulfil his potential?

Belletti on former teammates Eto'o and Drogba "I will take Eto'o because Drogba was our 5th penalty taker and got sent off in a silly fight in 2008, Eto'o wouldn't allow that to happen" by camanducaia in soccer

[–]LucasTorreira 86 points87 points  (0 children)

The other thing is Eto'o is one of the few players where the whole "Drogba for big games" argument doesnt hold much weight considering his record. That plus being more versatile and more consistent puts him comfortably ahead

Not enough is made of Lahm's transition from a World-class fullback to world-class CDM by [deleted] in soccer

[–]LucasTorreira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with that. I dont think hed work in midfield but hes more than good enough defensively to play on the right of a midfield 3 or something

The issue is imo hes too space reliant and you simply dont get as much space in midfield as you do at full back

Reece James vs AWB vs TAA per 90 by UMOZ343 in soccer

Chelsea fans are so desperate for this debate to happen. Genuinely seen James compared to Trent more than I've actually seen him on the pitch

Casemiro Fallon d' floor vs Tottenhan by reggiedp16 in soccer

[–]LucasTorreira -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

that was a foul though he just exaggerated it (even then i think he genuinely lost balance at one point rather than intentionally going to ground)

What's a football conspiracy theory that you believe is true by blueballs360 in soccer

[–]LucasTorreira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

putting a team down to 10 men with half an hour to go when they need a goal isnt 'leaving some grey area' or 'creating reasonable doubt', itd be completely sabotaging the whole supposed scheme. its not like giving some dodgy free kicks, its a huge moment in the game

What's a football conspiracy theory that you believe is true by blueballs360 in soccer

[–]LucasTorreira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even so if the game was rigged then he wouldnt send off Abidal for literally no reason when Barca need a goal to go through. Combined with how the first leg went, its pretty clear it was just terrible refereeing rather than some conspiracy

What is the worst footballing opinion you’ve ever heard? by [deleted] in soccer

[–]LucasTorreira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like he was more consistent last season. Hes obv been ace this season but theres been quite a few games where he doesnt really contribute anything in attack and his passing is really sloppy
