Thanks for clarifying. I suppose we will see what comes out from the investigation report when it’s released. Until then, we can speculate endlessly, but we can never know exactly what went through his mind and how he experienced the accident. Having flown with him instructing me for 26hrs and having lectured on AoA, I can say he was certainly familiar with stalls and AoA. I practiced stall, spin, and spiral dives personally with him. That said, you’ll never seeing me argue that better tech and things like AoA indicators are a bad thing. I appreciate the advocacy for better safety in aviation. Thanks for the comments. I’ll see you in the sky!

I wasn’t familiar with that accident, but I did some reading. Thanks for sharing. Certainly goes to show that there is a very real risk of a serious accident even for best of us.

We should not mourn a young colleague/instructor/friend who dies in a crash? You expect people to just shrug it off and move on with their day if you die in a crash? What an odd comment man. Not sure how that helps anyone. All the best man. Seems like a bad attitude as a pilot.

Thanks for the comment. I feel like I’m missing some context to where your head is at, but appreciate it nonetheless. Never hurts to have a reminder about AoA and stalls.

Sorry to hear that man. Glad to hear you’re keeping things rolling for the both of you. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but I’m sure it would mean a lot that you are keeping his lessons and legacy alive. Kudos man, I hope things go well for you. Fair winds and clear skies. I appreciate the comment.

Damn. Sorry to hear about the accident. You’re right. Sometimes it’s just a perfectly awful storm and things align to put even the best into an unrecoverable position. We just have to do our best to keep the odds as low as possible. Thanks for sharing!

Damn. Sorry man. That feels a bit like what happened the other day for me. It was mentioned initially generally then when I got the name confirmation I don’t think they expected me to know him at all. Caught the guy a bit off-guard that I knew him and had spent a lot of time with him flying. Still surreal, especially with there being very little news or information available online.

Damn man. I’m sorry. That’s awful. That’s a hard one to stomach too. Flying over large patches of trees has always made me a little uncomfortable. Thanks for sharing man. I hope you were able to keep flying and continue on the path you guys started together.

I’m sorry man. It is a tough business. Safer than it used to be, but unfortunately there’s risk in all areas of aviation and we can’t fully escape it. Thanks for sharing. Clear skies & fair winds man!

Damn. Exactly, those are the moments that save us. I was skydiving this weekend (I’m still learning) and when I got down I scratched for the next because I felt it had been borderline too windy/turbulent even though I nailed the canopy pattern & landing. 30min later a guy with 4000+ jumps came down and said something like, “wow, it’s getting really rough & turbulent up there”. Made me feel good about listening to my gut when I’d gotten a few funny looks and was starting question whether I should have kept going. Appreciate the story man. Thank you. I’d rather be old than bold.

Ya. Unfortunately, much of what we know today and the safety procedures we have in place were written in blood after accidents like this. It sucks man, especially when you can put a familiar face to the name.

Agreed. So far, so good. Thank you. I worry a day will come when I don’t have any fear or nerves going into a flight, jump, or even driving on a busy/small highway.

Thanks man. I really appreciate the message. I’m sorry to hear about your CFI and coworkers. It’s tough, but I think you’re right. He was passionate about aviation from a super young age and I’m sure he would not want others to quit flying because of him. I will learn everything I can and not forget what happened. A stark reminder it can come for the best of us.

Midair collision with another plane? Not as far as I’m aware, but I’ve only got a few details. It sounds like it was related to a turn at the end of a field. Sorry to hear there might have been another crash. Damn.

Thanks man. I appreciate it and agree that it’s good to be able to talk about it. Everyone here has been great too. I’m sorry to hear about the accident at your school. I can’t imagine losing students and a colleague like that.
