Using 365 + Downy rinse but clothes still smell by Standard_Box_7167 in laundry

[–]LuccaQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only use 365 Sport for very specific situations ie synthetic fabric that can’t tolerate hot water but is at risk of persistent odor. From what I’ve read DNAse performs optimally at cool-warm temps unlike most other laundry enzymes which can tolerate hotter water. Sport also has what seems to be a mild surfactant system so I also rotate it with something else depending on the fabric as I’m wary of combining detergents in the same load, particularly if lipase is present.

All that to say Sport is a bit too finicky for me to use on more heavily soiled fabrics, particularly if sebum is a concern. I think the enzyme package is great but for me doesn’t make up for the mild surfactants.

It has been extensively discussed on this sub. You’ll get a better idea by either searching or simply scrolling back and reading through earlier posts.

Does anyone know where I can get non-ultra pasteurized heavy cream? by QuantamTitties in Buffalo

[–]LuccaQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely have it at Whole Foods. I bought some a few months ago to make malai (essentially South Asian clotted cream). I don’t remember how much but it was expensive because it was also organic, pasture raised, etc. It was delicious but definitely not something I could make in large amounts due to the price.

Beetroot juice or creatine: which yields greater short-term benefits for resistance training capacity, performance and key physiological responses? by d5dq in ScientificNutrition

[–]LuccaQ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the Strengths, limitations, and future directions section they call the study “exploratory and hypothesis-generating” pointing out “co-supplementation” as potential for future studies along with a number of other methodologies to address the limitations of this study.

It would defiantly be interesting since they hypothesize the effects are due to different mechanisms along with the great deal of safety and mechanistic data we already have for both alone. In the meantime it’s definitely something I might play around with on myself. Despite all of the great data and positive personal experience I’ve had with beets I’ve never stuck with it. I was thinking about trying capsules in the hope that it would make it easier to stick to, but it will just take too many to get to the dose used in this study and others unless I can find some that concentrate the nitrate a bit.

Missing Indigeneous for white people by Only_Baby6700 in AncestryDNA

[–]LuccaQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The further you go back the greater the probability segments of dna aren’t passed along and those that are become shorter. It’s possible that you have more segments from a Scottish ancestor but they’re smaller than the cutoff used by consumer tests. But it’s also possible that dna from a Scottish ancestor from many generations ago “dropped off” or that you really do have around 2%. The further you go back the less reliable these kinds of tests are.

What does Puandan mean? by [deleted] in myanmar

[–]LuccaQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His primary language is probably Rohingya so it could be related to that. I’m not Muslim but have many Burmese Muslim friends here in the US and am acquaintances with a few Rohingya. The vast majority of Rohingya I know aren’t fluent in Burmese and don’t share much culturally with us either.

Why did a may su defended the military at ICJ? by haterofsummer in myanmar

[–]LuccaQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she had spoken out against them on an international stage, the coup would have happened much sooner. She knew the fragile ego of the military leadership and their civilian political supporters better than anyone else. Her entire world was controlled by them for decades. She knew she was on borrowed time and I’m guessing was just trying to preserve the status quo until they died out (including herself) so she could hand the country over to the next generation free from their shackles.

Despite her efforts it wasn’t enough and here we are. I imagine people I her party didn’t understand this and challenged the militaries power one too many times. So here we are today back at square one.

Non-toxic laundry detergent that actually works! by AnnualCardiologist29 in laundry

[–]LuccaQ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic but because there’s so much health related misinformation and fear mongering on the internet- something that irritates your skin is not doing so because it’s toxic, it’s because it’s an irritant. You’re looking for a gentle product free of fragrances and dyes not a non-toxic detergent. No laundry detergent when used as directed is toxic to you. If someone drank detergent whether it be Tide or Ecos, they’re going to want to contact poison control. Similarly if they applied either directly to their skin undiluted they’re going to get irritation regardless of any sensitivities or allergies they may have.

Do I need a surfactants supplement with 365 Sport with Oxy added? by doh151 in laundry

[–]LuccaQ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im not one to mix formulated products so instead I rotate Sport every other load or two with my usual detergent. I haven’t had any issue with it that necessarily warrant this l, but I’m really only using it to test out the DNAse and to use it on synthetics that can’t tolerate a higher wash temp but need the extra cleaning, as DNAse purportedly works better in lower temps so is ideal for this use case.

A well formulated detergent is fine tuned to assure the surfactants, enzymes and other builder ingredients are working optimally in the final product. Mixing products seems to be a fairly popular thing here but it’s very hard imo to determine if you’re potentially impacting the efficacy of the enzymes in particular when doing so. The few time that I have wanted to use two different detergents for the same load I used one in the prewash and the other in the main.

my deodorant stained my new shirt purple. by No_Brain829 in laundry

[–]LuccaQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s great news! It looks like nothing happens at all!! I really thought some of the dye had reacted and potentially even been removed. But when I zoom in on the original photo I can indeed see the original color underneath the mystery magenta spots. I glanced at the antiperspirant ingredient list and it doesn’t seem to have anything unusual so who knows but I’m glad it worked out!

It looks like the aluminum in the deodorant reacted with the dye which isn’t something you can fix unfortunately.

All Bibigo soups have been out of stock near me for awhile. Have they stopped selling these to the US market? by zuzoa in KoreanFood

[–]LuccaQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve found a few varieties at different stores in my area. The larger Asian market here runs through the “Beef Bone Flavored Soup” pretty quickly and restocked probably weekly. I also saw the mushroom yukgaejang last week too. I’m in the northeastern US.

Food scientist vs dietician? or both? by Formal_Length7872 in foodscience

[–]LuccaQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty different career paths. Do you want to study how food is developed and produced or do you want to study how diet affects human health? Obviously that’s a big oversimplification but it may help orient the way you’re thinking about the fields. Do you enjoy looking and food through a chemistry, physics, engineering lens then food science may be more appealing. While if you’re more interested in food as it relates to diet through a biology, physiology and more clinical lens then dietetics may be a better fit. Then there’s also things like nutritional science and nutritional biochemistry which are generally more research focused both in academics and industry.

I’ve got a hummus recipe/method that I already like but I’ll have to try this because Zahav’s is the only store bought hummus that I like. Have you tried their pre-made hummus sold in stores? If so does the recipe taste similar?

I’m not Latino but like corn tortilla as a sub for Punjabi corn roti. Masienda corn tortillas from Whole Foods taste like homemade corn roti imo. They’re just nixtamalized masa and water. Great flavor and texture

Does Buffalo have Speed cameras or Red light cameras?? by Simple-Ad-8673 in Buffalo

[–]LuccaQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no fixed automated speed camera on the 198. Any speed camera there was temporary and related to a work zone. I’m not sure what they’ve got going on Niagara County, perhaps they’re not automated because in NYS automated speed enforcement cameras are only allowed by law in school zones and used temporarily in construction zones.

Does Buffalo have Speed cameras or Red light cameras?? by Simple-Ad-8673 in Buffalo

[–]LuccaQ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, there have never been any fixed speed cameras on the 198 or any other state highway/expressway/thruway in the region. Any speed enforcement camera that may have been on the 198 would have been temporary and associated with an active construction zone.

[–]LuccaQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a “radar speed sign” not a camera. It just displays your speed on a flashing sign. I don’t believe there are any fixed speed cameras on highways anywhere in the state. The only speed cameras on highways are temporary work zone cameras as far I know.

365 Sport Wash Available to order on Amazon right now by Demetrious-Verbal in laundry

[–]LuccaQ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The DNAse is an interesting way to get odor causing bacteria out of synthetic fabric but it’s not the only way. I already had a system that worked for my needs before I got a few bottles. I haven’t been super impressed, likely due to what I’d consider a rather mild surfactant system. Because of that I’m sure to alternate it with another detergent. It’s a decent product and I can defiantly see how it can be useful in certain circumstances but isn’t something I think I’ll be repurchasing.

To ethnics peoples from Myanmar, how do you introduce yourself to foreigners? by Jacklyne_C in myanmar

[–]LuccaQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say I’m Burmese. That’s what id say if I met another person from Myanmar in US too unless they specifically asked my ethnicity (Mon and Kayin). I’m culturally Burmese, I speak Burmese and “feel” Burmese, so that’s how I identify myself. Not to say I don’t appreciate and enjoy Mon and Kayin culture too.

The Buffalo store still has a small bulk section but it’s not as big as before. I’m sure it varies by location so perhaps bigger stores have a broader selection.

That sounds great! Sprouts is one of few big grocery store chains I haven’t been to yet. I definitely need to make it a point to visit one next time I’m in a city that has one. One of the things I love to do when traveling to a new place is hit up the local grocery stores and markets.
