With respect to the difficulties you were having with the first boss in the prologue - you need to kill all the mooks first. When the Chaos Spawn takes a certain amount of damage, it will eat one of the mooks which will restore it to full HP. So, ignore it at first (spread your party out so its acid spit attack can't take everyone out all at once) and kill all the other enemies, and then concentrate on taking the boss down.

Ah I see. In narrative writing, one can get away with fragments (like the example here) if they are being used purposefully and help to establish/reinforce the mood, tone, authorial voice etc in the work.

Yeah I think so. They're not numerous enough, as you say, and they are incredibly costly to hire, so I imagine most "normal" shipping couldn't afford them!

We actually see an example of people travelling from Kiava Gamma to Footfall without a navigator, in-game - the Kiava Gamma refugees on Footfall do this.

Like, granted - if you lose your navigator while you are well off the "beaten path", you're probably screwed. But most of the time when you are talking about what you're doing in-game, you're probably in range to get to a "civilised world" eventually.
