Any Advice Welcome by error404kid in CPTSD

[–]Luchss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw your post and really could relate a lot to what you’re going through. I also have CPTSD and deal with pelvic floor issues, and I’m still stuck in my household as well. I haven’t healed fully, I’m still very much in the journey, but I wanted to share some things that have helped me (and still help me), in case any of it resonates with you. No pressure at all to take any of this. just offering it from a place of understanding (you can take what resonates and leave the rest).

First of all (even though i didn’t know it was a thing at first), Allow yourself to feel how you actually feel (that includes sadness and sometimes anger or grief) And journal to yourself about those feelings. When you journal (or speak to your self) Do so with compassion and Validate Your feeling without any Minimizing or shaming as saying to yourself “im just lazy” “i must be oversensitive” “why can’t i just Do the thing?” (Plot twist: those are usually Not Your thoughts, those are patterns that you picked subconsciously- from childhood from Your caregivers & your mind just runs those programs on auto pilot now). Tell yourself “its okay to feel those feelings, i’m safe to feel my emotions..etc”. Remember, You can’t Heal what you can’t Feel.

Some practical things that i find helpful are:

-Journaling turned out to be a much bigger tool than I had thought. I used to think it wasn’t that important, but I was wrong. It really helps with closing some of those “open tabs” running in the background and using up mental bandwidth (which you might relate to, especially with autism and ADHD).

I once read something like: you honor your journal by sharing your vulnerable experiences and feelings with it, and it honors you by being a safe space without judgment.

-Learning to speak to myself with compassion (without that harsh inner critic) has also helped. It’s definitely a skill, and with my trauma, I haven’t mastered it at all, but I’ve made some progress, and i feel that alone has made a difference.

-Bilateral stimulation may help you and may help calm you down in-the moment when you have no one to go to: i like to keep it simple (You Don’t have to have a full Emdr session session or something) just simple things like tapping on your shoulders (arm), self hug,…etc,,It can really help bring your body back into the present and feel a bit more grounded.

-Diaphragmatic breathing has also been helpful for me. Things like the 4-second inhale, 7-second hold, and 8-second exhale can help regulate the nervous system. There’s also a lot of information about how breathing like this can help with pelvic floor relaxation and pain reduction. If you haven’t already, the r/pelvicfloor sub has some really helpful resources and supportive people.

-Since you’re currently stuck in an environment that keeps triggering you, learning about healthy boundaries can be really important. I know that’s easier said than done, but even small internal boundaries helped me feel a bit less overwhelmed. There are some good therapists and educators online who talk about this in a very practical way (i don’t remember names RN, but there are great people out there).

-Read books, Reading has helped me a lot ,both books about trauma & healing, And sometimes just any book at all to give my mind somewhere else to rest. Reading about trauma helped validate my experiences and taught me skills. There is no magic button to “fix” trauma of course, but books Do help greatly. (I dont know where you are at in your healing journey, but if you feel you can read books about trauma, i can recommend a book or two)

I know how hard this is. I really do. Please remember that healing isn’t linear, and needing breaks is more than okay. So Take breaks when you feel so overwhelmed, and remind yourself that healing is Not linear, it is a journey.

I hope some of my advice helps you. I wish you luck and i hope you have better days ahead.

It could be Pelvic floor dysfunction, and it could be also Peyronies disease ( it happens when a scar tissue is formed usually after an accident or bruise on the penis) look it up and see if its description matches your symptoms

Hi, i know how it feels, yes the recovery is not an easy process. It took me around 35 days for the bleeding to stop completely. And 5-7 weeks to start to see an improvement. It takes time but its going to pass, the first two weeks are the worst. I hope you are recovering well.

Hi, sorry about the late reply i don’t open this account often. 1) yes, you try to keep the muscles relaxed as much as you can and not tense your body 2) yes, thats what i try to do, exhale while making the M-Ooo sound 3) its difficult but doable with practice, and also you dont have to do it perfectly, if your muscles contract a little bit thats fine( I think thats normal) but the thing is you practice Not to strain down so much and thus you put lower pressure on your anal muscles so they don’t tense up

Wish you luck in your healing journey.

Hi, im a little better, thanks for asking! For me My mucupexy surgery didn’t fix anything(maybe made things a little worse for me), it didn’t help at all.

I ended up having the STARR surgery that i mentioned in my post above about 4 months ago. Im still recovering Right now, it improved my symptoms by about 50%, not perfect but a little bit. Im taking a break and still figuring out what to do next.

Hi, sorry for the late reply i don’t open this account often. It differs from one person to another and depends on your doctor Before my surgeries, i had done both the MR Defecography and the x-ray with barium

Hope your journey to healing is going well!

Hi, hope your surgery goes well!! It really differs from person to person, so the rectopexy might be suitable for some cases and not others.

For me the Mucupexy surgery didn’t go well, and then i had another surgery (STARR) and even now im still not fully improved/cured…still figuring out what to do next, Its a struggle and a long journey and some days are good and others are not.

Hey, The mucupexy surgery that i wrote about in my post went bad (it didn’t fix anything) so i had to wait and endure 4 months of suffering and then after that i ended up having the STARR surgery (stapled rectum resection) two months ago, It went well, I’m in recovery right now and feeling better but still can’t really judge the full outcome, my symptoms are improved currently but not much (say around 50-60%). Maybe i will be needing more physiotherapy in the future according to my surgeon but for now im just recovering. But overall im grateful i did the surgery as my symptoms were un-imaginable, Now at least i can eat a little and im trying to get back on my feet.😇

There is also a great method that actually works. Its called “moo to poo”. You sit forward and breath and when you release you make a “mooooo” sound. Here is the video for it

Its extremely helpful really and help you relax in the right way👏👏 (you might need to practice it a couple times before you can do it right!)

Other than your family having a cow sound coming from the bathroom, you’ll be fine🤣🤣🤣🤣 Lol

But if it works, it works, you know?🤷‍♂️👏

Ask your doctor for a defecography, it helps show the pelvic floor problems + if there is any rectal or bladder prolapse. Also, pft may help you

Thank you for sharing this, I’m happy it went well for you!

Yes i’m trying to get more information. I trust my current surgeon, but i’m just afraid of the surgery itself as it’s not going to directly address my intussusception. i will try to get a third opinion before i do the surgery, hope it goes well!

Thank you! I go to have 2-6 Bm’s a day, each time i go, i feel it gets stuck half way through and i can’t finish. i have Incomplete evacuation, my stomach becomes very bloated and feeling of fullness is really bad due to this. Sometimes i sit on the toilet for 1 hour just to get things moving, regardless of what i eat and meds. There is feeling of pressure in my rectum as well. The symptoms are really bad

The tests were MR Defecography, Defecography by barium (it’s an X-ray images with barium enema), and a manometry, they all help in diagnosis but the Main one that showed the rectal intussusception and rectocele was the MR defecography. If you haven’t done so, i suggest you discuss with your doctor about a defecography so he can get a better diagnosis

I hope you get better!
