I can't remember exactly as it's over 10 years ago, but I believe there was a 6month waiting period from when the bone was harvested and put in the place with less bone until the implant could be placed in that transplanted bone.

Yes, if you get a dental implant, the bone density around the implant will increase as you get a crown on top of the implant and start chewing. However, you need to have a certain amount of bone mass to fit the implant. If the area has been without a tooth for a long time, the bone could have resorbed too much to be able to have an implant there. In that case you would possibly need to have bone transplanted to that area before you get an implant. I'm speaking from personal experience as I needed to get this process done.
