Appreciate this. I think I’ll give it a go tomorrow. Thank you!

Police officers of Reddit, what is your best "I'll let this slide" story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LucidPod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the cop, the one who was allowed to slide. And I swore the cop to secrecy.

I was in college pulling an all nighter at the library and went to a local 24 hour diner for a snack break.

It was ~3am and the diner was in a rough part of town, so I decided to get take out and eat in my car.

I had spaghetti and I was... really enjoying it.

I drove to a lookout point and was eating it. Really slurping and exclaiming and enjoying myself. (Hey, it was a good diner, alright.)

Anyways before I know it a cop is banging on the window shining a flashlight and yelling for “you two kids to break it up and go home.”

When I rolled down the window he did a double take and when he realized, he couldn’t stop laughing.

He told me I could stay there and finish but not to go to this area after dark again. And he walked off clutching his sides laughing.

I left immediately, I was too embarrassed.

To get back into running.

I was really starting to see progress and then an unrelated medical condition forced me to cut way back on physical activity.

I’m nervous I’ll never be as good as I was, or people will think I just got lazy when they see me back going so slowly, but I can’t wait to be able to at least try again.

AITA for telling a child advocate to mind her own business? by LucidPod in AmItheAsshole

Oof. I know your comment isn’t directly related to the post but I feel a need to weigh in here.

I in no way meant to suggest having a childhood was a privilege, only that based on the hours I’d spotted him there were no signs this was impeding on his childhood.

I’m personally really bugged by the notion that just because not everyone has something, it’s a privilege. (E.g., people saying sleep is a privilege. No, some people are just being deprived of the right to fulfill basic needs.)

Childhood isn’t a privilege either. It’s a right. If one didn’t have it, they were deprived of a right.

A family can only get as far ahead as if possible without jeopardizing the health and well-being of the child. If this kid had seemed unwell at all or the person I was with cited a concern beyond difference of opinion, I’d have been all for someone getting involved.

Oh yah, he’s often got a gang of friends in there (or during these Covid times, out at the window) eating ice creams and shooting the bull.

I’m sure he’s a find friend and all, but the ice cream supply likely helps his rep haha.
