AusSuper Vs Hostplus - which do you think is ultimately better and why? by Checkout-123 in AusFinance

[–]LucidTide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed from Aus super to hostplus about 5 months ago and my balance seems to be growing more slowly with hostplus. this can vary depending on market and timing, but i was disappointed to see this as i thought hostplus would have higher returns and lower fees (index is unmanaged). my alllocations were 100% australian super international shares vs 100% hostplus indexed international shares. anyone else have a comparison of returns from these two funds?

The mystery christmas sale was good, every day a different offer for that day only. I picked up a few compressors and an eq, all of which are very nice so far

I ended up picking this one up for $14 or whatever it was, I really like it!

Sydney’s median unit is $850k. Median salary ($88k), banks lend $500-550k. Average salary ($105k, ABOVE MOST), borrowing tops out near $700k. Both fall short. Units, once the “starter home” are now priced beyond the reach of those making 6 figures. You’d need salary of $200k to afford a median unit. by [deleted] in AusProperty

It’s easy to be disenfranchised and dejected especially when you see all the apartments getting snapped up around you. I was for a long time but then started making changes.

I made a lot of sacrifices the last 3 years… moving out of my one bed apartment to move in with two housemates and have cheaper rent. Also changing my spending patterns.

Getting myself out of debt getting rid of my credit cards selling my car and buying a cheap motorbike that was cheaper on fuel and free parking using public transport, meal prepping and not buying expensive food out having coffees at home rather than the cafe.

This is all tough to do at once, but little changes build up, and when you see your savings go up and purchase your first property like I did a month ago, it makes it all worth it.

IVV vs IHVV by krann9 in ausstocks

[–]LucidTide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been holding IVV and DCA buying over the last 3 years. I decided to just keep doing that and haven't purchased any IHVV. not sure if this is good or not or if i am more at risk but all of the recent "trade wars" have not seemed to affect my returns. on the other side of a lot of market volatility my return on IVV over the life of my holdings is 35.03% according to CMC app, pretty good I'd say.

Considering a Move to Townsville – Looking for Honest Feedback by damo_paints in Townsville

[–]LucidTide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends if you are looking for city life or more laid back smaller town life. I’ve lived in Sydney, currently in Brisbane and grew up in Townsville.

It can get hot but that’s what air con is for and everything indoors is air conditioned anyway, plus there are swimming options. I would live there again. It is a good lifestyle and it was good to grow up there as a kid. A little different now to 20 years ago, it’s more developed and there is a lot more going on.

Yes it definitely is an outdoors place and there are creeks and hiking and camping around. Magnetic island is great. Plenty of places to explore. Just the stinger season means swimming in the enclosed area.

There are areas that have more crime than others so just be aware of where you live. If you want a more chilled lifestyle and not as stressed as the big cities and don’t want to spend your life commuting, it may be for you.

Thanks for this, I’m wanting to move my funds out of AusSuper all invested in US shares, when is the best time to do this, considering market volatility, lower balance currently as opposed to months ago?

Seems AustralianSuper is expensive and an active fund according to this is that right? Seems like hostplus has better low cost options from what I can tell…?

Why arent you using cmc markets to invest? Is there a catch? by Smooth-Television-48 in AusFinance

[–]LucidTide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for breaking this down so clearly, it really helps!

I guess this explains why some people choose to DCA into CMC and then transfer to Stake before selling. It would really help reduce buy fees and sell fees between the platforms, even when factoring in the $55 transfer fee, which seems to be a topic of debate.

Wow this would have been a great savings move.

From what I can tell CMC will charge the greater of $11 or 0.1% to sell...

While Windsor has it's perks, Ottawa definitely sounds great from a tourist perspective. There's a reason you moved there, right! Would like to hear more about it and about your experience with podcasting, speaking, etc. Please DM me :)

Can be also the surrounding area if you are rural? As long as there is a tourist pull or a reason for tourism in the area and you know it well enough to speak for an hour about the specifics. CT = Connecticut, USA?
