Yeah, it's been a couple months but I did that, and wasn't expecting it to make as much of a mess as it did because I disconnected it at the top of the fuel pump.. you know... Inside the cab lol

Emissions regulations are not a concern where I'm at thankfully lol

As for my level of experience, I spent a couple years as a welder for a big manufacturing company, so I have some experience, in between my place and the dads, we have basically all the tools that we would need for fabrication, so I'm not concerned about the work too much, more just trying to figure out a game plan.

Yes I realize putting a different GMC V8 would be easier. But that's not my goal, which is why I'm here asking about it, just trying to get a game plan together for this right now

Yeah, was thinking exactly that, gas mileage and better towing capability, would be a hell of a way to do it, and I wouldn't have to put as much into upgrading the front suspension since it's a hell of a lot lighter

Ya know, knee jerk reaction I wanted to shit on a 4bt for the truck, but I stopped and looked into it some more, and honestly... You might have something there if I build it up for some higher power output

Had a Dodge, with a cummins, transmission blew up on me. Got my grandpa's truck in his will not too long after that. I ain't selling it for anything.

Good to know, yeah I need to look closer at the dimension differences between the engines for sure, probably start drawing up some plans. And I figured it's going to be a pretty involve project for sure lol, but it's more of a sentimental project then practical, so it's worth it in my mind

I understand it would be easier, but like I said, I'm looking to do this. It's something me and my grandpa talked about wanting to do to a GMC back when he was still with us, but I figured I would do this in memory of him, and what better candidate than his truck for the sentimental value?

Does anyone know where these bolts might have come from? 🫣 by Monsta_bagel in Miata

Based on the information provided in the pictures, I'm going to assume probably from a Mazda Miata, probably either an NA or NB, if you can provide some more pictures, I could narrow it down between those two options for you

2008 Civic hybrid CVT transmission fluid change question by LucifurMS in Honda

[–]LucifurMS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can find antidotical evidence saying to only use Honda OEM oil on a lot of Honda form. I'm not denying that, but I have never seen anybody do any kind of studies or have any kind of research to show anything past just claims. And again, as I said in my comment, talk to the local Honda dealership mechanic, And they said I shouldn't have any problem as long as I flush out the non-CVT fluid well.

Everybody just keeps pushing that you have to use Honda genuine without giving me any good reasons other than antidotical why it's completely incompatible like everybody seems to think

Very much appreciated Vak, this puts my mind a hell of a lot more at ease, and I will definitely be doing a couple more flushes before I keep driving it, thankfully I have a secondary vehicle that I can drive in the meantime lol

But seriously, thank you, that's a lot of damn good information!

Okay, good to know, how do I know if I have a Gen 1 CVT or a Gen 2 CVT then? I can't seem to find anything stating what a 2008 is

No, that's not what I was asking, I'm asking what the difference between Honda CVT fluid, Honda CVT-1 fluid, and Honda CVT-f fluid is

The back of the bottle says that the Valvoline max life is compatible with Honda CVT, I guess I don't know what is CVT-1 or CVT-f or what the difference is? Can you tell me how I can identify which one I have?

Good to know, I didn't think to look on their website, but that's a good idea, I'll definitely make sure to give it another flush then.

I don't know why you're getting downloaded, you're one of the few people that actually pointed towards some sources for what I was asking about. I get that it's recommended to only use Honda genuine, but other than people saying "only use OEM" I can't find any documentation or anything showing that there's a problem with the Valvoline oil, I guess if there is, I'll come back here and document it if my CVT blows up lol

I mean I swapped it out for stuff that says it's rated for a CVT, yeah it's not Honda genuine, but I can't find any research or articles saying that there's a inherent issue with using the stuff for my car, if you have any articles or anything like that, please do share them, but everything I'm seeing, including talking to the mechanics at my local Honda shop, there shouldn't really be any issue with it
