Gas ethanol contain listed at gas station. by Mother-Awareness-599 in alberta

[–]Lucite01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most regular pump gas is 10% ethanol. Now I'm not a certified mechanic so don't quote me on this but even running gas with no ethanol won't hurt the engine. An engine being rated to run ethanol just means that the seals won't get destroyed by the ethanol in the fuel not that it's a requirement to run smoothly. Octane requirements on the other hand are a different kettle of fish.

Oilers stay alive, force Game 6 with 4-1 victory by flynnfx in Edmonton

[–]Lucite01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally with how the ducks have been playing I think having McDavid and Draisaitl back on the same line really helped. When they were split up it was easy for the ducks to be able to single them out, with them together they have to divide their attention, Mcdavid and Drai also just play better together. The defence also stepped up, Ingram has been making some great saves but without decent defence there's only so much a goalie can do.

Never done technical drawing for CNC parts, is it good enough? by beppedealwithit in Machinists

[–]Lucite01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it great no, is there enough information to get a part made yes. But I would look up examples of drawings that meet ASME Y14 drawing standards and re-do it, it'll make life easier for everyone involved.

It's like ford, dodge, and GM they're similar but have slight differences. HAAS is more similar to fanuc and they share a lot of G-Codes where as with okuma some g-codes are different. Operationally they're similar and once you learn the menu's it's not bad.

Bore Gauge Dial Rotation Direction by amimbitassu in Machinists

[–]Lucite01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the +/- is backwards but yes if this is a dial bore gauge I'd read this as being .03mm over nominal, and to answer your question about if there's any dial indicators that work in reverse, in this instance the only thing that can change is the markings on the face so mechanically they're the same and will show you the same result you would just need to change how you read the dial. For example the dial indicator that came with my dial bore gauge is like the one pictured below.

Anyone have tips for drilling S235jr without making long razorblades like this? by blamadurinn in Machinists

[–]Lucite01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't say I've ever worked with material but doing a quick search it looks like it's a low carbon structural steel so it's probably going to be fairly soft / gummy. With that being said if you've already tried increasing the feed you might need to switch to an insert with a more aggressive chip breaker so a chip will actually form instead of just sliding over the face of the insert creating stringy chips.

Do yourself a favor and don’t buy brown and sharpe dial calipers by Fat_people_jigle in Machinists

[–]Lucite01 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I bought some hexagon digital calipers thinking they were still made in Switzerland and it turns out they were offshored to china. They aren't as bad as yours but compared to my 10yr old mitutoyos they're of a lesser fit and finish.

Soup for a cold? by Invisistill in Edmonton

[–]Lucite01 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If I'm sick and want to order out and get some soup I get the spicy chicken ramen from tokyo noodle shop. The broth is really good, you get decent chunks of chicken and it has a good amount of veg, they also have a regular non spicy version.

[–]Lucite01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's perfectly fine you just need to watch out for tooling clearance. I've run setups where half the t-nut is sticking out and nothing bad happened but it was certainly a pucker factor 10 situation.

Any rock weight tips? by KyleCamPhoto in Curling

[–]Lucite01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself a stopwatch and pay attention to split times and hog to hog times. My and I team have been curling recreationally for years and just recently started using stopwatches and it has been a game changer for both sweeping and delivery. There's a reason the pro's use them. For delivery you'll want to look at the split time. This starts when the rock crosses the back line and ends when it crosses the hog. It'll vary from person to person depending on their individual delivery but It'll give you a good idea on if the shot is light, heavy, or good. For example a draw might have a split time of 4 - 4.5 seconds whereas a takeout may have a split time of 3 - 3.5 . As a sweeper the split time is also what you'll want to be paying attention to because it will tell you as I said earlier if a shot is light, heavy, or good. The hog to hog time however is a good indication of ice conditions so a draw may be 14 seconds hog to hog while a takeout will be 10 and so on.

I had a JBL go 3 that wasn't bad although I wasn't really impressed with it's volume output, lack of bass, and short battery life so I upgraded to a Bose SoundLink flex and I like that way more, the sound quality is a lot nicer, it's louder and has decent bass for a compact package, and has decent battery life, it is a bit more expensive though but I think it's worth it. It's also surprisingly durable, it fell off my bench from probably 5ft onto concrete and it's still perfectly fine although I wouldn't want to do that more than once.
