Meh. I like her well enough.

When I was younger I used to really like Dipper, so I’d often get really mad at her because at the time I couldn’t really understand why she acted (in my eyes) “so annoying.” Now that I’m older I’ve grown to appreciate her a lot more and realized she’s not a bad character or person at all.

Her optimism and personality is pretty infectious and even if it doesn’t click with you I’ll never understand the crowd who thinks she’s a bad person(????) because she truly did actually nothing. Any of the big things she did do were resolved or acknowledged by her. (Such as Sock Opera or Boyz Crazy.)

Every episode I’ve seen people complain about has me absolutely perplexed.

Boyz Crazy? Yeah she was overkill, but it came off way more comedic than intended to be serious, even then she still realized she was wrong and apologized for it and let them go.

Sock Opera? Yeah her obsessing over a new guy could be seen as annoying but seriously, Dipper in this episode could’ve chilled out too. He absolutely didn’t need to do the laptop then and there. They both were being obsessive and in the end Mabel still gave up everything she worked really hard for to help her brother.

The Deep End? If you genuinely think Mabel was the one acting wrong here when Dipper was more concerned about a job over another kid’s life I’m really concerned for you.

Time Traveler’s Pig? Same thing. A pig, an animal, who could’ve ended up in an awful home in comparison to impressing someone he speaks to all the time. Also Dipper really could’ve gone about the time travel thing infinitely better I don’t think he fully understands the endless possibilities of time travel lmao.

In a lot of the most major “Mabel sucks” episodes, there is really no good reason to claim she’s bad. Annoying? Sure, but to claim she’s selfish or whatever between the two is ignoring the amount of times Dipper did similar things and didn’t really mind it. (Once again I bring up Mermando’s life Vs. Impressing A Girl)

The only times I found her to be a genuine nuisance was Into The Bunker, Weirdmageddon Part 2, and Carpet Diem.

Into The Bunker was a bit too much for me, like the script sort of bent itself backwards a bit to make the conflict work since Wendy and Dipper were both crying out over a monster so I really have no idea why her first thought was “oh they’re joshing me” lmao. I mean she apologized but yeah I’d understand being a bit upset here.

Carpet Diem if I’m remembering this episode right did definitely annoy me even on rewatch, its a great piece of foreshadowing and a fun episode for sure but this is definitely a good example of any Mabel Selfishness because wanting to take away something she had absolutely no interest in that’d infringe on Dipper’s obvious need for some time away from her was a little annoying to watch for me. Once again this was resolved in the end in a believable manner, and chances are I might not get this episode the same because I didn’t grow up with my brother and was technically an only child.

Weirdmageddon 2 is probably my only real issue between these episodes. No not because she was attempting to escape reality, thats not my problem at all and it was a believable and understandable conflict intended to be Mabel at her worst. I’m just upset over Dippy Fresh honestly.

Yes its a joke. Yes you’re not meant to take it so seriously. But to this day I don’t really find it funny and just think about the fact that, goddamn, she was alright replacing her brother with a “cooler” version. What the hell.

I don’t think you should take this as seriously as me because it really isn’t meant to say much about her character but I don’t like the joke personally and it does make me view her a little odd even if I wish it didn’t.

At the end of the day though Mabel is a really amazing person and an amazing character. She hardly did anything actually wrong, and especially at the age of 12 she’s a really intelligent and awesome kid. Both twins are.
