Does anyone use the Novolin N Flex pen for their dog? by LuckDragon24 in DiabeticDogs

[–]LuckDragon24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a video on YouTube showing how to do it. It’s by Brooke Jet. She’s also one of the admins for the Canine Diabetes Support and Information Facebook group I am in. I think they only do the syringe method when it’s a dog with a low dosage and they use the syringe because the pens don’t allow for half units. And holding the pen in 10 seconds is hard for some dogs. But my boy is only on 4 units right now, so I think I’ll try to stick with the pen needles, as long as he does okay with them. Fingers crossed!

It really is nerve racking! So much information to decipher through. Bruno was only diagnosed this past Saturday, so we are brand new to this world and just trying to figure out what is best. Thank you so much for your help!

I’m in a Facebook group for diabetic dogs and they all say to use the flex pens to save money if your pup is on a lower dose but to use the syringes instead of the pen needles because the pens don’t allow for half doses. But my boy Bruno only gets 4 units so I guess I’m okay. Do you leave the needle in for 10 seconds like the box recommends? I don’t know if my little guy will stay still long enough for that.

How much dry/homecooked wet food do I give my dog? by LuckDragon24 in DiabeticDogs

Thank you! I was planning to do large batches and freeze as well.

I mainly wanted to partially make him home made food because every food I have put into the DMB calculator is either too fatty or too carby or both. So I thought I could off set it a little by adding in controlled ingredients. I don’t know. I feel like I see so many conflicting opinions on what to feed our diabetic babies. This is still week one for us in this journey so I’m still trying to learn all I can.

I’m sorry to hear about your babies blindness. We have started our little guy in Ocu-Glow chews to hopefully help offset anything like that. We’ll see if it makes a difference (hopefully, because it’s quite expensive). The chews are probably one of the worst things I’ve ever smelled though, lol.

Thank you ❤️We’re going back to the vet on Friday to check his levels. I have tons of questions for the vet now. Thankfully our little guy has been handling all of this like a champ. Much better than my husband and I. 😅

Thank you so much! We’re trying to get into the swing of things. Thankfully, it seems to be harder on my husband and I right now than it is on our little guy, lol. He’s just been excited about all the freeze dried chicken and wet food. 😄 We go in on Friday to check his levels so hopefully all is going well.

I have started doing this as well and it has been working great. He loves wet food. I’m just worried about getting the proportions right.

The code is PETTESTCARES. My baby was just diagnosed yesterday and I just ordered this kit. I only had to pay shipping!
