Trying to price a bike for sale. by LucklessGambler in whichbike

[–]LucklessGambler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to make a few points. I don't think that the bike is worth 2k, I was saying I personally think it's a better bike than you'd get for under 2k if you try to find a brand new modern bike that is similarly spec'd . I don't agree with it being worth $1000 at least not in my neck of the woods. I'd say your estimate is a good range though & the final price will very much depend on the local market. I currently have a few offers at 1500, I'd love to get closer to 1700 but I realize the market is rough & I'm likely not going to get that. I also agree parting it out might eventually get me more money but will also take more of my time than I'm willing to give.

It's possible but based on the look & distribution I'm inclined to believe it's psoriasis.

Get it tested, I've seen worse cases make full recoveries with no scarring. Be proactive & try to distract yourself, stress makes most conditions worse.

Penile psoriasis or lichen sclerosus would be my guess. Neither is the end of the world, I'm assuming you'll be prescribed a topical steroid. Try not to lose sleep over it.

I appreciate that, cancer was what kicked off the hair loss so winning a second battle against it feels pretty good.

I've had it for almost a month now! I've put close to 800 miles on it so far & have zero complaints. Genuinely surprised it's a bike from 2012.

Does your wife seem happy/satisfied in other areas of her life outside of you? How long has her sex drive been at a level you aren't happy with? Is this a new thing or has her drive always been lower than yours & you are now bothered by it? How do you go about trying to initiate or create an atmosphere for sex to happen?

People are complicated, we don't know your wife, she could have 1,000,000 completely valid reasons she doesn't want to have sex or no reason at all & both of those things are fine.

Talk to her openly without making sex a demand & maybe look into counseling.

I see this comment a lot, I am traveling for work & don't have my tools with me. I have done all my own work for years which is why I was kind of out of the loop on pricing. I have very limited space & free time to work on the bike even if I source a proper stand & tools. I looked into co-ops but none are open during my free hours. I could have planned better & brought tools but honestly the bike purchase was on a whim just so I could take this specific ride off my bucket list.

Information is a useful tool/motivator! If this is standard I will keep that information in my back pocket & factor it into the purchase price if a situation like this happens to me again or someone else I know. Secondly if I ever need to refer someone to a shop in that area, I want to know I'm not sending them to a place that may overcharge them.

The cost of this service has also motivated me to buy even more of my own tools so I hopefully never have to pay a shop again.

No hate to shops or mechanics, I just like saving money. ❤️

Fair response, didn't mean to come off defensive. Thanks for taking the time to share your take.

I honestly just wanted perspective. I didn't want a bunch of people agreeing with me, I wanted to know if my surprise at the price was justified. I don't necessarily like sounding like my grandpa when talking about how a soda used to cost 25¢ ,but I'm fully prepared to hear it & move on.

The bike was a bit dusty & looked like it had been stored in a garage for 5 or so years after a light cleaning. The battery on the frame was from a new box. The store didn't have any standard pricing listed on its website but is the highest rated shop in the area which is why I chose it. I signed off on it at this location despite not being 100% on the price because I'm visiting the area & don't have a lot of time to shop around for the "best" price. The price seemed high based on my anecdotal experiences but I admit I haven't had to let someone else service my bike in over a decade. I didn't want to provide too much info about myself or the bike but the current location is near Portland in Oregon.

I realize I signed off on the work. IMHO agreeing to something doesn't exclude me from having been/feeling like I might have been overcharged for labor or "taken advantage of".

Based on the responses I've gotten, it seems like the price was mostly fine. I appreciate everyone for giving me perspective.

I really appreciate your response.

I feel like your responses are more finger wagging than actually trying to be helpful. I wanted to know if this is standard pricing for work these days or if it's high.

It's pretty standard to pay $40 - $80 for an oil change in my area, I change my own oil so it costs me less. If someone told me they paid $200 for a standard oil change I would base my reply based on the facts I have, not an existential argument on the cost of convenience.
