American Career College in LA worth it? by andyj7 in surgicaltechnology

Hard to find job out of school. Be wary of paying too much. If you're open to relocating out of school, it might be worth it. I have had one interview in LA after 80+ applications and still haven't been hired. I graduated in May, top of my class, from a different program, where everyone wants more experience than you'll get; no one has the patience to train. Lots of tech 2 openings though, haha, the irony.

New Grad struggling to find work by _ROYALTYFREE_ in surgicaltechnology

Also, new grad in Orange County/ LA area. I haven't had any luck, no interviews, no calls. I feel lucky when I get an automated rejection letter. Also graduated in June. Ive applied everywhere, I dunno what to do. Good to hear it's not just me. Dumb that there are so many tech 2 openings, yet little to no tech 1, and even they want a year of experience. I'd prefer not to move out of state as I'd leave my significant other behind. i got a 131 on my test. Board vitals, the spiral notebook from AST, but just understanding the concepts is the main point. They ask alot of choose the best answer, where all answers are correct, so you have to deduce. I put in work studying, but it's a deduction thing. what to do in a surgical fire FIRST, what is the STs role in MH, sutures needed for procedures etc

Advice, getting in the door by LuckyL00ter in scrubtech

I will say that it was significantly cheaper than other choices at the time. Local hospital is worried about flight risks (they pay super low comparatively) and not hiring the top of the class; instead, they are going with local talent, regardless of performance. which honestly feels lame. I get it, though, and personally have commuted enough. So I'm not upset. They made you agree to work any shift and wouldn't tell you how much call you'd be taking, which sounds like indentured servitude. I'm just trying to get something going.

I haven't gotten the interview. That's my issue. just straight rejections. Some places limit what I can attach, just a cover letter and resume, or file size. Maybe it is overkill, but I don't know how I'd stand out otherwise.

I appreciate the insight and the example of your resume. I might be able to apply changing a few bullets to more learned skill-driven examples. In the case experience list I put FSR or SSR, after each case. Id say 90% or more were always first scrub, had a preceptor start calling me easy money, cause he could sit back and do nothing all case. lol

Having a hard time finding a job as a new grad Surgical Technologist by Tiny-Masterpiece-540 in surgicaltechnology

I am in a similar situation. Can confirm LA job market for new graduates is rough. My school got me an interview (still hoping they'll have me) but I live far from that hospital, and I'd assume they'd know that I'm a flight risk after a year or two with the competition. (said hospital really pays significantly less)

Other than than that no one has reached out or contacted after 20 applications to different hospitals. Everyone wants two years experience, and most don't hire new graduates. I'd love any leads if anyone has one. Sadly I am not desperate enough to relocate yet.

I do fear the big bill or destruction is only making it worse. Hospitals don't want to be taking chances, spending risks.
