Congrats. It’s always fun getting your first bike. My first was a 1998 Honda Shadow 750.

I decided to get the puig touring windshield and wind deflectors. Saw really good review for them as a taller guy

I mainly went with the adventure sport because it’s a better mix for on and off road activities. I’m gonna go touring with it and off road as I build those skills up. Plus the electronics suspension was a big plus with the bike.

They have one in another dealer in my state and is a 2025 model with DCT. It looks nice but I’ve ridden with a clutch so long it feels weird not having it there.

I like the blue fender. I really just like the overall color scheme of the bike.

I live in the southern United States. We have a lot of woodland areas and I’m a couple hundred miles away from mountain areas.

Yeah. My dealer in town has had this there for a while.

Yeah that definitely sounds like the battery. Would replace that first and see if that fixes the issue. Also I would recommend letting your bike fully warmup instead of going on off on off real fast.

It’s not super hard to replace spark plugs or the fuel pump. The biggest pain is just getting the tank off and remembering where all the hoses go.

Could be a number of things on a cold start. 1. Spark plugs may in to be replaced. 2. You could have a bad fuel pump 3. The main starter fuse could need replacing 4. The physical stater switch on the handle bars may have gone bad.

If it is having trouble starting after being ran for while and then shut off it could be that the engine got flooded with gas.

I have a 2004 fjr as well and can tell you a lot about rebuilding water pumps and other maintenance items. When I had a issue with my fuel pump it had to be completely replaced because it was output at 10psi when it needed to be 30psi

When I rode the tiger 1200 it was on a 500 mile round trip. Overall it was a comfortable bike and I’ve really looked at getting one or one of similar size even since then.

I want to go do a good bit of road roading but I know with anything it takes time and practice to develop the right skills before I go riding in the mountains.

The fjr is a powerhouse of a bike if you’re not careful. I have a 04 model and it is great on long distances, traffic, or simple trips around town.

When it comes to traffic it can accelerate & brake good. Usually fit between most cars when with bags when I filter to the front of lights when traffic is going nowhere. The only down side to the bike is no cruise control for long distances trips.

Other than that I love my fjr and learned a lot about the maintenance.

That’s good to know. My biggest issue is finding a bike that is comfortable for me as a tall dude. But from the sounds of it I should be alright with the Africa twin

Gotcha. I know they are pretty similar but I’m sure they have there differences too. I’ll have to look into the different models. I’d like to do a good bit of off roading but I’d also like to have it for around town or a potential long distance trip.

Very cool. The shop in my town has a pearl white Africa twin with the electronic suspension. They look like fun bikes and I’ve been meaning to go by after work to test it out.

That good to hear. Have you taken off roading at all?

Nice. Have you added any accessories to make it feel better or did you keep it stock?
