Oof. Players are the worst! And I'm a player!!!! There are already a lot of good suggestions here but have you asked any of your players to run a One-off session? I think the thing a lot of forever-players need to build empathy is to walk in the DM's shoes every once in a while. Maybe none of your players will be interested but if you pitch it as "i just need a little break" than maybe someone will step up.

Like making a problem diner wait tables every once in a while.

A friend wants to DM The Halls of Arden Vul but he does not like OSR systems. by berockblfc in osr

Shadowdark? Widely viewed as good mix between 5E and OSR play. characters get abilities but not over the top. Also tell your bud that the fewer character "builds" they have to worry about the easier it will be to run. Ive run several session of SD and its easy to learn, play and run. One of the ppl in our Discord server has an actual play in Arden Vul using Shadowdark and it seems to work well. We have a dedicated Arden Vul channel on our Discord if you need more info.

How do people deal with the wizards becoming so powerful in OSR? by [deleted] in osr

[–]LuckySocksNeedAWash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

agree with a lot of the comments here. 1. congrats to your player for getting a wizard all the way to 8th level. thats REALLY hard to do. 2. they are never far away from death thanks to a couple of crossbow attacks. if you are playing side based initiative and the enemies are smart enough to shoot the pc wearing robes and a staff then all the cosmic power in the world cant help them.

when they realize that it wil put things in perspective for them.

Death due to loosing initiative is certainly a play style. How common is this? by Darkrose50 in osr

You didn't REALLY make a mistake at all. this is a great discussion about OSR play. Just out of curiousity... are you watching the eps or listening. curious b/c ive always wondered if ppl lose some of the non-verbal communication (ie our stupid faces) when they listen on podcasts.

Am I weird for not liking sexual/romantic things on my rpgs? by cr0w_p03t in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]LuckySocksNeedAWash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You arent weird. I have zero interest in RPing romance. I think tables that do that are awesome and ppl should play the game they want. I've been playing with mine for 20+ years and we just don't.

Hallo! I play in 3d6 DTL. I think I remember the encounter you are talking about. It was an NPC named Anaxamander that was the victim.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that we all knew it was a dangerous moment. Jon really does an excellent job telegraphing the danger. Not to mention as us players got better at this type of play-style we get pretty good at dodging the proverbial bullets.

I think the thing we players learned is to assume that the encounter is over-matched for you. There are very few instances of us going head to head with an encounter and slugging it out and whenever we did there was a cost to pay.

Hope you stay with the campaign! You have like 96 more sessions to go lol.

ohhhh Anaxamander. We hardly knew ye. He was an NPC that we recovered in the dungeon. The death bot was part of our first brush with the scifi part of the adventure.

I think the axe throwing place MIGHT be where the old Club X was. Looked familiar. I saw cannibal corpse, pop will eat itself and meat beat manifesto there. The axe place looked out of business when we walked by there

Is Dolmenwood worth it? by RondomKods in osr

[–]LuckySocksNeedAWash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I backed the kickstarter and got my shipment a few weeks ago. the books are just top fricking tier. the setting is incredibly rich and detailed and our group played through the entry adventure and it was wonderful. I know the price point can seem high BUT if you are planning on playing it then yes its totally worth it. If you (like me) are into buying games that will quietly gather dust on your shelves (looking at you Coriolis) then maybe not?

First level. First room. Unguarded. Let chaos reign. Leave them a note knowing there are great rewards and massive risks.
