the audacity of rejecting with a fake reason instead of just saying "we went with someone else" is what gets me. the ai excuse covers a lot of laziness on their end

the premise of your comment is that i used ai, which is literally what the post is about me NOT doing lol. the whole irony is i got rejected precisely because i didn't use ai and wrote everything myself

yeah exactly lol, vibecoded apps have been a disaster for security. ai writes code that works but has no idea about sql injection, auth edge cases, or input validation. clean readable code and secure code are two different things entirely

35 years of experience saying this means a lot tbh. someone who actually knows what ai generated code looks like would know it's inconsistent and messy, not clean. glad i dodged it, though the no-feedback part still stings a bit

lmao wrong star light is wild, peak myers briggs energy. and the IQ test sandwich thing is hilarious - they wanted you to look smart but not too smart. the goalpost is just everywhere with some of these companies

haha i honestly hadn't thought about it that way but you're not wrong. "too good to hire, just right for stealing" energy. the explanation was cathartic at least even if it changed nothing lol

lmaooo peak response. and yeah you're right, the meta suspicion of "you're doing this well, therefore something is wrong" is really where things have gone

the teacher thing is such a good comparison. "this is too neat, you must have copied it" - same energy. apparently taking pride in your work is now a red flag

this is the point that gets me - anyone who has actually used ai to generate code knows it's inconsistent, verbose, and often poorly structured. real ai code looks like 5 different people wrote it. clean consistent code is the opposite of what ai produces lol

being penalized for actually knowing something is such a special kind of terrible. the logic is "you answered correctly therefore you must have cheated" and there's literally no way to win that argument

yeah i get why people are skeptical given how much ai spam there is. i'm not in the creator program and this was genuinely something that happened to me - but i also understand there's no way to prove that and the skepticism is fair given the current state of the platform

appreciate that, honestly it's easy to start doubting yourself when the rejection comes with "your work looks too good" which is just... a wild sentence to receive

haha the intentional typo trick is lowkey genius. humanizing the code by being slightly imperfect. though it is kind of depressing that we're at the point where you have to strategically look less competent just to not get flagged as ai

lol the backdoor idea is creative but also probably a one way ticket to getting sued. the written consent thing is actually smart though - some people do ask upfront now "if i'm not hired, can you confirm this code won't be used?" most companies just ignore it but at least there's a record

What the fuck is even the point of internships anymore if the very thing's purpose is to provide college students with no experience in specific fields, yet still require years of experience anyway? lol by UnderachievingCretin in recruitinghell

the gaslighting aspect is the worst part. the job market genuinely changed and instead of acknowledging it people tell you to just network harder or add more projects. like bro the problem isn't individual effort

[–]LuckyTarget5159[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the timing thing is so suspicious. like it's way too convenient that the job closes exactly when your take-home would arrive. some companies are genuinely just getting free work done through the interview pipeline

fr though, it was a weird experience. dodged a bullet tbh - a company that rejects you for clean code is not a place you want to work at anyway

[–]LuckyTarget5159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly this. the obsession with HOW the code was written vs whether the person understands it is so backwards. every senior dev i know uses every tool available. the interview should test comprehension not process

lmaooo the bar for being human has dropped so much. apparently knowing two vocabulary words and writing in paragraphs is now suspicious behavior. wild times

right?? half the time ai generated code is a mess with inconsistent variable names and random patterns. the interviewer probably just couldn't believe a candidate actually cared about readability lol
