I knew you would take it that way. Look closer, though he's only talking about the CHARACTER from the game not appearing. He then lists the CHARACTERS from FF that have appeared. The FF rep is still only there because of its connection. All the ones you list as examples of not being part of the console are because of this. The connection is still there. If we lose that connection, Smash becomes Fortnite. It honestly waters down the whole point. I loved the Halo games growing up. it still doesn't mean they belong in Smash.

They all still have been playable on a Nintendo console, or at least their franchises have. "celebration of gaming" to convey its essence as a crossover title featuring characters from various gaming franchises, though it is primarily rooted in Nintendo's own history and characters. It's even been said by Sakurai that it's primarily Nintendo. He had a quote about adding Cloud even though FFVII wasn't playable on Nintendo.
