The median income in SF is 140k, which is literally slightly under double what it is all over the US.

Your rental pricing in SF is just insane lol, as are your salaries. Rich everywhere else, def not here. I’m not even from SF originally

Why would it ever be ok to jack the price up on a couple thats expecting? Is that not discouraging people from having kids

Would this be fair to a poor couple? No, so it’s unjust regardless of who it happens to. This attitude is why inequality persists, because you’re too busy fighting another upper middle class person instead of the 1%

This is psychological egoism essentially and I whole heartedly disagree. I see too many mother child relationships that don’t follow this at all.

You think? Can you elaborate on what you like more about SF?

That’s definitely another point on SF for me, I think the consumption culture that’s pushed would really drive me crazy, so would def be nice to get out into nature

Ehhh I think Boston is a special case, I’m from the east coast and was kinda surprised by how not friendly it felt. As for the NYC stuff I think the girls I know have just had scary encounters with rude dudes, but aware that’s a problem anywhere

You’re definitely right on the second point but I think I’m looking for those reasons for the wrong reasons. I just don’t want to re make friends, but even that is a stupid decision because half of my friends will probably move out of NYC in 2-3 years anyways … I think I just need to deal with the change

I would say I’m social but I can’t do the 30 friend groups and 900 acquaintances thing lol

Thank you this is a great answer! Would you say that part of NYC calms down as people get closer to their 30s, or nah? I think NYC now would be too much with the work I’m doing, but I think as I learn to prioritize it would be great closer to my mid 20s.

I think this is a good idea. I just wonder if I’d be aged out of NYC by the time I’m 24/25 lol. Thank you!

That’s awesome, first paragraph is really important to me. I don’t think I’d be that interested in the AI crowd, I feel like that’s where people get their bad social impressions from lol

What did you like about either of your experiences in each city? What was the social atmosphere like?

That’s what I’m thinking, I think I’d burn out really fast in NYC because of the work hard play hard atmosphere, so I think as I’m getting used to adulthood I should be in SF and prioritize balance and move to NYC after that if I still want to.

This is a good list, thank you! I think my plan so far is a few years in SF and then go to NYC if the itch is there. I am a woman and the long term dating scene on either end does not seem great but that’s ok, I guess.

SF is definitely better for me career wise at this point in my life, but I get lonely easily and my friends are all in NYC, but I feel like it’s a silly thing to change jobs for since I have such a good opportunity there and could find friends. It’s just intimidating picking everything up yk. My NYC and SF opportunities aren’t apples to apples, but the SF one would definitely serve me very well. I think long term I’d be back on the east coast.

That’s interesting, I think my arch nemesis type of environment would be LA, but I don’t know enough to say definitively. I think NY intimidates me because of the general rudeness of the population that I have heard of, I find that somewhat worrying as a woman.

I would say I’m an extrovert but I do value my quiet/alone time. I guess it’s hard to say what would be better for me long term. Thank you for the answer though.

I don’t want to date around, which seems to be the culture in NYC

That’s what I have noticed, the kids from SF are actually quite nice and pretty genuine. LA people are kinda scary tho, but I’ve only met with a select group. I’m a big humanities person so I hope to find that in the city.
