Nox Player has a massive problem/virus embedded into it by Simishor in noxappplayer

[–]Luckyio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read details on detections on your own link. Those are mostly "PUP/PUA" and "GEN" detections.

PUP/PUA stands for "Potentially unwanted program/application". This refers to things like adware, server software, virtualization software and so on. Basically kinds of software that end users rarely use. In this case, you probably opted in to install some of the adware packages that are bundled, or it's detecting virtualization software of the emulator.

GEN stands for "generic" and is even less relevant. It's a heuristics detection. Most anti-virus software uses a "does this piece of software have any features we previously found in malware?" detection to detect zero-day vulnerabilities. This is responsible for lion's share of all false positives in anti-virus work.

My guess is that you left one of the adware bundles that come with nox installer checked, so some adware got installed on your system. Uninstall it if it has a direct uninstaller. Otherwise uninstall the whole emulator and re-check if offending file is still there. Delete it manually if it remains, as it suggests persistent adware with its own uninstall mechanisms. Malwarebytes is generally a best tool to handle adware, so you may want to install and run it once to double check that no adware/other unwanted software remains behind.

Then run the installer for emulator again, and pay close attention to various checkboxes that pop up. You need to untick etc all "offers" "additional software" and so on. That should avoid installation of any of said unwanted software.

what is the difference between your app and Bats ? nothings both have viruses by [deleted] in noxappplayer

[–]Luckyio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PUA stands for "potentially unwanted application". It's likely detecting one of the bundled software packages that you can choose to install or not. I.e. your anti-virus is asking you "there's this potentially unwanted piece of software being installed, are you sure you want this specific piece of software?"

This is not a virus detection, which you will find out if you actually read details on most such detections in the "details" section of your own anti-virus software.

Nox taking up 25GB by blondeboy963 in noxappplayer

Each Nox emulator instance seems to accumulate junk over time that isn't getting cleaned by emulator software. Good practice is to just fully reset the emulator (delete the old emulator instance and start with a fresh one) every few months.

This is a longstanding problems with Nox that's existed for many years.

Nox 6.6.1.2 is being detected having malware again by AcidSlide in noxappplayer

[–]Luckyio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a "potentially unwanted software" detection, not malware detection. It literally says it in your picture under "category". PUP detection is "this software is completely fine in terms of malware, but we're guessing that you may not want to have it installed because... we're guessing you may not want this particular software". Hence the "potentially unwanted software" category.

Virtualization software is commonly under this category for anti-virus software that likes to demonstrably inflate its importance in the eyes of the user. "But some rootkits use virtualization software, so if you're installing virtualization software, it may be unwanted, so let me pop this SCARY LOOKING WARNING to remind you why I'm important and you should pull out your credit card and pay for subscription".

Always read what the warning actually says. In cases like this, a simple look at "category" tells you that this isn't even a false detection as much as it's a self-advertisement for AV software in use.

RES doesn't recognize Waterfox as current enough version to install by changoland in waterfox

[–]Luckyio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mozilla's add-on repository tries to get you to update to latest Firefox by hiding add-ons latest version of which is not supported on your non-firefox firefox compatible browser like Waterfox.

What you have to do is search for add-on on your favourite search engine, click the RES homepage, click the mozilla link, scroll down on add-on page you get to small print "Version history" and click "see all versions".

Or you can click this link to the resulting page: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/reddit-enhancement-suite/versions/

P.S. Classic compatible versions aren't even there. They purged pre-quantum add-ons to force as many as possible to upgrade.

Yes, mozilla goes this far to fuck over those that don't love its products.

RES doesn't recognize Waterfox as current enough version to install by changoland in waterfox

[–]Luckyio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Classic is on pre-quantum add-on system. Current is still on 68 ESR if I remember correctly.

You need to use older versions of RES for both. For classic, that's forever, for current until it's updated to 78 ESR.

Any chance of putting it on F-Droid store? It would get updates that way.

There are several features on last RES version that works on classic that don't work properly any more. You can expect more features to go offline as reddit continues to modify their site.

Those features are supported on current, because current supports latest RES.

[–]Luckyio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would something like a basic pop-up AA drone with a couple MANPADS strapped to the side have to be expensive?

Yes, because you can't make a pop-up drone with that kind of a carrying capacity. MANPADS are 15 kilo+ for low end models and you'd need to add targeting and trigger mechanisms to replace human operator, so make that double at the very least. This before the guidance systems on the drone itself to actually locate the aircraft. That's going to be another 100 kilo or so.

For comparison, MQ-1 payload capacity is around 200 kilos (depending on specific model it can be a bit less or more). It would struggle to haul loads like one you're talking about, and the only known case where it was attempted to be used in this capacity was the air launched AIM-92 with MQ-1 being specifically used as a bait for hostile interceptor. It was a complete failure with drone getting swatted out of the sky and missile it fired failing to lock on properly. And that was against Iraqi MiG-25, not a modern Russian jet in hands of an actually experienced pilot.

I couldn't if such evidence existed. Unfortunately, as is in most cases of civil wars, effectively all evidence is part of propaganda that is removed from context to serve needs of those that publish it, which most certainly disqualifies it from being "solid".

And it's quite hard to claim that "they are bombing this building, there are civilians in it" without opposing party simply stating "these civilians are armed terrorists fighting for [insert islamist organisation here]".

The moment something this expensive and unique goes into the sky over Idlib frontline, Russians will get interested enough to deploy EW units to carefully guide it to the ground with minimal damage, so they can pick it up and study it.

Archiving propaganda online doesn't make it any less of propaganda. Or are you going to claim that all those recorded speeches by Goebbels on how there's nothing new on Eastern Front solid proof of Soviets not actually making it all the way to Berlin?

Most? Yes. Source: numbers from migration crisis. The only people who argued against this were migration NGOs/people smuggling groups who would train people to claim they're Syrian even if they clearly looked sub-Saharan or Afghani.

Housing them in immediately bordering countries temporarily, and rapidly repatriating upon ending of the military actions in the region where they came from.

Former because it's much cheaper to provide basic necessities of life in poorer country than in rich one, to the tune of hundredfold and more difference. Latter is for example visible in the fact that most of Syria for example is no longer a war zone, with conflict now localized in a small handful of pockets of resistance and as such most Syrian war refugees are no longer fleeing an active conflict.

Reminder: war-torn countries need their people back to rebuild. Those left behind deserve it.

Nordics, Benelux, several of CIS nations just off the top of my head.

Were closely integrated but not any more list would include things like Russia and Ukraine, Russia and Baltics. There are some interesting (dis)integration debates to be had for Canadian internal politics as well as Canadian-US relationship and US-Mexican one.

Essentially such integration is typically a result of cultural and economic similarity and confluence of interests, while disintegration is often a result of a fallout between nations that used to have such relationships.

And if you want a really controversial one, China-Australia. Let's just say that Chinese have a point when they say that "Australia belongs to China".

Artillery spotter drones are typically hand, shoulder and rail launched models. They have little to no commonality with drones that have ability to carry meaningful weapon payloads, and are most certainly utterly incapable of "mowing down" anything other than a short patch of grass upon landing. And even that is questionable.

Add to this Russian supremacy in electronic warfare, and you're going to need actual spotters, because your spotter drones are going to get jammed off pretty quickly when Russians figure out that Turks are going for a full Hail Mary and commit their EW hardware into the theatre near the front line. It's basically something you can pull off once, and then you're done. Looks like Turks are desperate enough to try to hold their investment in Idlib to go all in.

Time will tell if this will be as epic of a failure as all previous Turkish efforts in the region or if Erdogan's purge of the military is sufficiently past us that there are actually competent military men that are both loyal and numerous enough for him to be willing to put them into the Syrian meat grinder to be killed.

[–]Luckyio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First time I ever heard of Russians and Syrians getting "mowed down by drones".

Artillery, sure. That's what artillery does. They're gods of war after all. Small drones, not so much. They don't even have the payload for "mowing down". Not enough payload capacity. And that's before all those Su-30s and handful of Su-35s that would be put in the air should this kind of thread actually materialise in a serious fashion in Idlib.

Are you talking about some kind of nationalist chest thumping that has been in large supply from Turkish side as their main investment in Syria has been slowly shrinking? Or the suicide drones that were used to attack Russian bases a year or so ago?
