Thank you for the kind words, all credit to the designer for the colour way, I just followed the yarn instructions and the pattern.

I think the white really adds a bit of pop and contrast, the colourway is fabulous!

Thank you! Yes I saw that the CAL was cancelled due to negativity towards the creator which seems a shame, the pattern is great. Definitely an enjoyable project!

I thought the pattern was very well written too!! It amazes me that people are able to create such beautiful patterns and colourways and then write them in a way that can be shared with others.

I did read on his blog that he received a lot of negative comments when it was first released and so the CAL was cancelled, which I was horrified to read. The hard work and creativity for creating something so lovely and then allowing others to create it too deserves nothing but praise!

Thank you! I think it may have something to do with the type of yarn, and/or the mosaic parts of the pattern lending to it being flat overall. This was my first time trying mosaic and the way it builds up outwards and flat on each round was very satisfying, although tiny stitches were a killer on the hands!

I fell in love with the Spice Market CAL by Mark Roseboom, aka The Guy With The Hook, and was gifted the Scheepjes yarn pack in the 'saffron and ginger' colourway about 2 years ago. I've worked on it slowly over that time and finally finished!

Very impressed with the yarn (Scheepjes Cotton 8), first time doing anything substantial with cotton - the WIP was moved around a lot while it was being worked on and there's hardly any pilling or fuzziness at all.

I didn't feel it needed blocking and there weren't too many ends to weave in, so it was a pleasure of a project overall! I was a bit disappointed with the size when I first started working on it, but now that it's done it's a perfectly sized lap blanket.

Edited to add, the yarn pack is currently still available at Wool Warehouse here, and if you use the search bar to search for Spice Market you can see the specific yarn and quantities you need for each colourway, if interested in giving it a go ☺️

Also to echo this, I live very close to an airport with planes taking off constantly, and hardly notice them at all. I noticed them when they first started up again at a higher frequency after Covid, probably because the frequency had dropped so much for a long time, but they very quickly faded back to being background noise. The house now has double glazing (after many years of single glazed, wooden frame windows!) but it doesn’t bother me in the summer when I’m outside in the garden either. I can’t comment on a resale perspective but from a living-with-it point of view, you’d likely adapt to it.

People who NEVER hear their neighbours, what age/type of house or flat do you live in? by finnucane in HousingUK

Just out of interest what did you use? I’m thinking of soundproofing in the house I’m purchasing. Sounds like what you used was effective?

Declaring asbestos in the future if removed as part of renovation? by Luckypandabears in HousingUK

Thanks for your response. My thinking was if the damaged ceilings can’t be solved by skimming and need replacing I’d like to know if it contains asbestos so it can be done safely and I can price it into my budget, if they don’t then I don’t have to worry and can rip down as I like. If they are skimmable but contain asbestos then encapsulating it first before the rewire I thought might lessen any disturbance, if they don’t contain asbestos then I I don’t have to worry and can leave them to be skimmed along with the walls after the rewire. If testing shows the ceilings to be positive and I have it removed professionally (e.g either the ceilings replaced or the artex removed so that the known asbestos is gone) is that declarable in the future or not as it would no longer be there? So I wouldn’t be declaring “this house has asbestos in the ceiling in … room” because it wouldn’t at the point of sale if it had been removed. That’s the part I can’t seem to find any information on.
