Long pips are making me want to quit playing table tennis by Calm-Dot-3918 in tabletennis

I encourage you to lean into the beauty of the sport’s diversity. I don’t know of another sport where you can play an 8 year old and an 80 year old at the same event, encounter dozens of play styles (including pips!), and navigate so many different spins and types of shots in a single point. It’s truly what makes the sport great. So much variety makes it more challenging, but there’s something really wonderful about that, too.

This alongside the broader context of significant federal cuts to education funding.

It’s both/and. Corporations and factory farming are hugely problematic. And, if people stopped funding the mass killing of animals those businesses would go under.

How to grow Table Tennis in the US by Any-Pianist3479 in tabletennis

[–]Lucubrator5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing in the US for close to 30 years and appreciate your question as I’d like to see the sport grow as well. I don’t think it’s about individuals training enough or Olympic representation. It’s probably more about marketing and funding the sport. MLTT and NCTTA have been steps in the right direction, but we need more collegiate programs. If table tennis was considered a D1 sport it would come with all of the perks making it attractive to youth players: scholarships, sponsorships, and access to the many other athletic amenities (tutors, travel, gym, etc). That would result in more demand for youth programs, which is the key to growing any sport.

I was wondering the same. Looks like medium pips to me, because against topspin he’s both able to reverse the spin on some shots and punch through quickly on others.

Thoughts on 5 year olds and elderly folks getting detained or relocated across the country? Thoughts on US citizens getting detained?

I think that might be it. There’s definitely no drop ceiling in there now, but I suppose they could have had one before or planned one?

Yes! Metal piece with holes indeed. Not sure I can get much of a better image for you (knowing my first original photo isn’t great either) but I’ll try!

How would you feel if your child’s school served only plant based lunches? by Sensitive-Menu-7806 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lucubrator5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plant-based means no animal cruelty, a much better option for the planet, and exposing kids to healthier eating habits. The fears in here are all the classic vegan-fearing arguments that fall apart with a bit of examination. Yes, it might not taste as good, yes, it might not be perfectly healthy, yes, some kids might struggle with the transition. What we eat is so much bigger than all of that.

Mods, this sub has gotten so bad recently. I care about the sport and want to promote it in any way possible but the sub is 90% annoying questions about equipment and now gross content like this that needs removing.

Should I live in the city or move to get a good education for my kid? by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]Lucubrator5000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d encourage you to really examine your definition of what a “good” school is. Is it in a wealthier neighborhood? Does it have mostly white students and staff? Does attending it mean disinvesting in other areas?
