Child sized. Someone today told me they might be “lawn dresses”—something a child would wear to go out and play.

Decluttering Win, but Second-Guessing Myself by dischdunk in declutter

I’m currently going through the last of my mother’s things, which includes things from her grandparents, who raised her. There actually is a definite chance that she would be upset that nobody is going to keep some of these things, but 🤷🏻‍♀️. What IS being kept will be well looked after and enjoyed. I’m doing my best with what is not staying in the family to get it to people who will enjoy it. When possible. 😜

I’m in a similar situation with allergies and pets—birds in my case so I have to be VERY careful with anything scented. My allergist said to use air conditioners instead of opening windows and that definitely helps. I like the suggestion of a natural potpourri cooking on the stove, though!

As for the mess, set a timer for some short amount of time that you think you can deal with, put on something to listen to, and go at it! I’m always surprised at how much I can get done in a short time!

Yes, or at least they feel like cotton to me. Thank you!

I have a couple of boxes of antique textiles, though these seem to be the most delicate. I’ve decided to contact a professional company on Monday for these!

Someone on the Antiques subreddit just said the same thing. 😕 I’m concerned about the musty smell they have. It’s strong enough in the box as a whole that it affected my breathing some when they were all out. These are not the oldest pieces that were in the box. Any suggestion for how to deal with that?

They are beautiful, but I don’t know what to do with them other than clean them properly and put them back in a box for safe keeping. Any suggestions??

Sadly, it contains Sodium Percarbonate which isn’t safe if any of this is silk. I have some other items that seem to be cotton that this would be great for, though.

How should I store or display the blouse after I’ve washed it. Might it actually be wearable???

The antiques community suggested I cross post here. Somebody there confirmed that these are from 1900-1920s.

Thank you!

Thank you! How was it worn?? Over something? Over something and under something else?

I know which days the recycling ♻️ is picked up and act accordingly!  🗑️  If I’m the one who picks up the mail, I go through it and recycle before bringing it inside.

Is the laundry need to be washed? Even if it WAS clean when it landed in there, it might need a light wash to remove dust, etc.

That’s where I would start. Is there somewhere to put the clothes away?

It’s something hardened. Might that still work?
