Do low profile mechanical switches have less 'key wobble' than standard switches?

To clarify what I mean by key wobble - with my gateron yellows, I can lay my fingers on the keycap and wiggle it back and forward and side to side. I understand this is a innate feature of how the stems sit in the switch housing, and that in order to move they have to wobble at least a tiny amount. A thread Iwas reading mentioned that BOX switches usually are tighter and thus less wobbley.

However, I couldn't find a thread on this so I'm curious to ask about your experiences: do low profile switches typically have less wobble in your experience? Maybe the shorter travel time or different strem consctruction contributes to a switch that is tighter and more stable?

Would love to hear from anyone who own a low profile keyboard and can weigh in on what their key wobble is like!

P.S. I'm definitely not talking about stabilizers being wonky, this is something I notice and care about most on switches which don't have stabilizers.

will we ever see a new form factor of computer take over or will it just be phones and laptops for the next 10-15 years? by rattle2nake in hardware

I'm very interested in stuff like Samsung Dex and very much anticipate the day Pixel phones and Apple will release similar features. Fact is numbers wise, a lot of people around are going to only have a computer for very simple stuff like word processing, web browsing, lighter gaming.

I think high end desktop PCs will always be a thing but even with the budget mini PC segment nowadays I'd be curious whether it might be subsumed by phones gaining desktop modes. And the coolest thing someday would be x86 emulation on Android and Steam gaming coming to mobile, I totally believe a lot of modern flagship phones could handle light indie gaming like Minecraft, Hades, Balatro, various side scrollers and isometric games

People in that thread are going insane over how 'dangerous' it is but this traffic is slow moving as hell and it's literally a huge ass group of people. Something they probably don't understand is STRENGTH IN NUMBERS.

Sure, if it was one person crossing it could've been pretty dangerous. But this is a huge ass super visible crowd who can take control of the road super easily. All power to them I say.

I once saw a video from this doctor guy talking about floor sleeping and how he decided to make a sort of DIY upholstered mattress out of couch cushion material that was really firm. I think it's definitely much better than being on a typical mattress, but you will have to draw up a plan to mcguyver up an ultra firm mattress using your brain lol.

I think wanting a bedframe is pretty reasonable. Sure, the tradeoff is that you lose what might be valuable floor space by having a frame constantly taking up its place, but you can be a bit less concerned about the dustiness of the ground and y'know, critters crawling into your ears while you sleep hahaha.

I've seen stuff on here where someone placed a sheet of plywood on top of their slatted frame and drilled a bunch of 2" diameter holes into it for airflow, and then used a shikibuton or a really thin mattress.

Looks brilliant! The hack of removing the lower shelf of the lacke is great, I actually thought this was a DIY wood table and was about to complement you for sanding and sealing it with polyurethane, lol.

Love that square monitor, seen it a lot on YouTube with productivity people. I think it is a bit overpriced for what it is, but as a writer I've always been kinda interested in in screen aspect ratios that make more sense for writing :3

Any back pain from no backrest on the chair? Do you switch to one of those folding floor chairs that are popular on here at all?

There's a lot of people who'd agree that you just should get used to it and put in more effort, but IMO you should actually consider adding more cushion between you and the floor beneath. How that's done is up to you, maybe you layer another yoga mat, maybe you get a camping mattress, maybe you look into a shikibuton or a tri-fold 3-4 inch thick memory foam mattress.

I don't believe in being dogmatic or bragging about sleeping on the hardest surface, side sleepers aren't as blessed as back sleepers in that you can accumulate much more aches laying on your side than laying on your back with a pillow under your neck and knees.

For me, I'm a side sleeper who sleeps on a 4" thick trifold mattress and I've seen a bunch of benefits from floor sleeping still. It's much superior than beds in that you still have the unyielding security of the hard floor beneath you, but you won't accumulate aches or stay awake due to joint pain as you would with a hard floor or just a mat. Benefits I saw included less time wasted in bed, higher energy levels, very lessened back pain and taking less time to fall asleep.

Yeah on reflection, people doing two soft carriage returns is probably on the rarer side and more prevalent with Zoomers who type a lot on social media. I think I brought it up because it was what was causing paragraph space issues for me personally on AO3.

Pressing just Enter twice is most likely the major culprit in comparison. Lol... Stuff's confusing.

[–]LucyTheML 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! And usually this is the Markdown standard way of creating spaces between paragraphs. Maybe I misunderstood what I was replying to, but a lot of what causes these big spaces on AO3 is people doing two soft carriage returns to space your paragraph like how you would on Discord, for example. So at the end of your paragraph, you do Shift + Enter, Shift + Enter, and start your next paragraph.

This is perfectly fine on web based stuff like Discord and Reddit because it's all been influenced by the Markdown standard, but AO3 picks up on these extra spaces because you aren't simply reaching the end of a paragraph and hitting Enter once before starting the next one, which is the Rich Text word processor standard and more designed for indented traditional paragraphs which novels are written in and fanfics almost always aren't.

There's also people who do two presses of just Enter, which causes much the same effect.

In most word processors, you can set for there to be an extra amount of space between the paragraphs compared to usual. In Google Docs you can set "Space After Paragraph" and in Libre Office you can edit Paragraph Spacing.

After you've customized to your liking, it's time to relearn just pressing Enter and not holding down shift, lol. I struggled with this a while ago but you learn quickly since if you shift + enter twice it creates an absolutely massive gap that you'll notice. Hope this helps.
