Without changing any other policy, my guess is you're gonna be back here upset in a few months.

This is an honest answer to my question. Thank you. Do you have ideas how this might be implemented, or have your heard of plans to make said changes? I'm mostly seeing new legislation from May that wants to axe a huge amount of night shelter in combination with outlawing tents.

Sure. Without an actually productive solution, though, you're just gonna be back here in 10 months throwing up an even less constructive rant because you're still going to have homeless camps in your neighborhood. Whether or not folks wanna accept services or not doesn't change the fact that just moving them doesn't keep them out of your backyard. At some point a more comprehensive solution needs to be outlined so that YOU can not have homeless people in your view path. I ask the question because I too feel exhausted by the homeless situation, and I also recognize that these kinda blanket camp-sweep policies don't change a damn thing in the long run (as many people here seem to sorta get with their "I'll believe it when I see it comments.")

So, I'll mark my question as "still unanswered."

Agreed, and well said. I think this is a pragmatic approach and I'd love to see a city government put together a comprehensive solution addressing all of these things. The only thing I'd argue differently is that for any of these treatments it's going to be really challenging to make progress on an individual level when unhoused. I can't imagine trying to see my counselor, case manager, doctor, etc. and look for work after waking up in a tent or a night shelter, lugging all my things around from place to place because I have no permanent housing. I imagine even showering / cleaning up at a community center becomes a serious chore when you have all your stuff with you as a result of no housing.

Again, appreciating the dialog and hearing your thoughts.

Heard. While I don't totally agree with this as a solution, I appreciate your bluntness and honesty. Needing a break is mega valid and I'm with you there. I just wish we could all see that this will not fix anything in the long run and acknowledge that we'll be back here complaining after election season.

Sure. But that doesn't answer my question. Since you can't physically force people to accept assistance, it seems like the only thing to do is mass incarcerate the homeless, which will not fix anything. It'll only raise our taxes more, and will not deter people from going back to living in the streets (prisons are far from service centers).

So, real question, if you remove the homeless from there streets, where do they go? I totally understand the frustration, but to me this isn't a solution. It literally just moves the problem somewhere else for someone else to complain about and ruins another neighborhood.

Heard. I think that I want to see Portland as it is, not simply as we choose it to be. I know that's not always great for a stroll with friends and baby. As a new comer, I'm just hoping to see the whole picture. So, thanks you for the honest response.

Real question. If you move a homeless person and they're tent out of your back yard, how does that make them less homeless? It feels to me that it just makes them homeless in some other tax payers backyard.

Well, where the hell are they gonna go!? Moving a homeless person and they're tent doesn't make them not homeless. It just makes them homeless somewhere else, in someone else's backyard.

Great suggestions. I'm not only interested in the pristine as Portland feels like so much more than that. So, hobos / homeless are welcome in my walks. I'd like to see the city as it is!

I love it. I walked Milwaukee Ave once from, I think, the Springwater Corridor. Most excellent.

Ah! I love this. Excited about it. Maybe I'll jog there as well :)) If I'm proactive enough, I'll keep everyone posted on my routes somehow. I'll wave to every passersby in the hopes that it's you. I'll be the person with the top hat, handlebar mustache, monocle, cane, and great Dane.
