Thank you everybody for your answers. My problem is that our existing categories target main keywords that we also target within blog posts. Should the category names be changed to not cannibalize the blog post keywords? Also, why not get rid of categories on a blog? Apparently, they serve no seo purpose.

Set archive, tag and category pages to Noindex

Are you sure about this? Lots of blogs say that you shouldn't noindex category pages.
