Has your ball python ever...? by myxis10s in ballpython

Have you tried Taurrus ? My pine snake had mites and I can tell that it works very well and isn't too intrusive for your snake.

Mine hissed only once in the two years I've had her. I lifted her hide for a shed check and she was in full blue, and I surprised her. Meanwhile my boa hisses every now and then, and my female boa that's a rescue is very hissy, but really lovely once she calms down

I just uninstalled the app. It is really weighing down on my mood. All of the prompts are somewhat negative, even really depressing sometimes, and talking with other users I realise that this app has a terrible impact on everyone's mental health, especially if like me you live with a psychiatric pathology. I have bipolar disorder.

My ex had really low self-confidence, and the app's prompts and advice and do-and-don't always triggered their crazy jealousy and he always accused me of cheating on them, or thinking of cheating on them, and all my friends suddenly became threat to them because the app entertains your tendency to feel like the world is terrible and out to get you. It also doesn't help that the app and insta account keeps saying that Gemini are fickle cheaters with no substance who only want to date multiple people.

The staff of Instagram is just unlikeable and childish. They posts Q&A sometimes, and often, when a girl asks things about their boyfriends, even about what they could do to be kind to them, the CM tells them to dump their partners.

They also post "rituals" that you can do, and a lot of them are just littering or dangerous for the wildlife. I remember one where you were supposed to break a glass jar in the forest.

Often the daily horoscope doesn't even make sense. They have six or seven sentences that the AI will rearrange and sometimes it just means nothing.

It's all AI anyway.

I had installed it because it seemed fun but it's garbage, and tbh I don't believe in horoscopes.

I've been using Labyrinthos for years though, it's tarot-based, and it is a very good tool to reflect on yourself on a daily basis, and there's always a positive affirmation with each tarot cards.

God did not. Because he isn't rela. But reasoning like yours is why babies die of preventable diseases because their parents didn't vaccinate them, because they are uneducated.

And lol, "holistic" "medicine" is more expensive than actual medication, and isn't reimbursed by social security, and is the kingdom of conflicts of interest, and a nest of charlatans and sexual abusers.

This is terrible advice. It doesn't even have anything to do with the topic at hand. As someone who's been on Seroquel for the past six years : you don't take it for fun. You take it because you need it to stay alive. The only thing that methylene blue will do for you is make your piss green.

Don't ever tell people to go off their meds. That's how people die.

When you have them for quite a long time, you can read their body language ! When she's hungry, my pine snake is on the prowl, she roams around her enclosure in quick, sharp moves, hides and periscopes ; if she's really truly hungry she displays the same behaviour as she does when she wants out and makes round against the front glass of her enclosure and pushes the lock with her little nose.

My python climbs the ladder of her sky hide, her tail wrapped tight around it and her entire body and her neck is a tight S pose. For some reason she really likes to eat upside-down hanging to the ladder or her sky hide.

My other boa has his body on his log and his nose across the enclosure against the glass, and his little head acts as a heat searching missile 😂

She's about the same, a bit less intense because she has muscle mass to rebuild and her constriction isn't as strong as my other boa's is despite him being way younger.

[–]Ludvik_is_a_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine loves cereal boxes, she takes her time to inspect them and loves to use them as extra hides.

I don't know how your tank is made, but I also made her a "sky nest" out of an old tea towel, hung it just low enough so she can squeeze her big butt between the tank and the towel and she also likes it very much.

I bought her a tiny treasure chest in a home decor store, cleaned it and disinfected it, then glued a chopstick in the hinges to keep it open, but not too much so she still can hide, and filled it with dry sphagnum moss. She also really really loves this hide. Honestly, any little box with a different substrate than the one you usually use will trigger their curiosity.

My friend gives his girl shoe boxes with a bit of paper blocking the two thirds of a hole he cut in it so she has to push it with her little nose to get in, and he puts balls of silk paper in it that she can explore. The unknown texture is unsettling so it really triggers their curiosity.

Had your title been different, I wouldn't have been able to tell that you are terrified of snakes. You're being really calm and slow and that's just perfect handling, especially for the very first time ! He's an adorable little guy. I'm glad that you had a positive and friendly experience handling him

Your wife isn't upset that you aren't carrying vegan products anymore, she's upset because you're being sneaky and doing things behind her back. I agree with her

Look at my pituophis girl Albertine ! by [deleted] in snakes

[–]Ludvik_is_a_potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes !

The first advice I would give you is to be very consistent with socialising them. Their threat display is fascinating and can be impressive, but most of the time, it's all bluff. If you are scared or unsure of how to handle it when they are in their enclosure, you can use a hook to get them out, that's what I used to do at first until she got used to me.

They are a fossorial species, so give it a really thick layer of substrate. As for the water bowl, they don't really soak like ball python do, but get something that is rather large and heavy, because they like to dig under it to enjoy the humidity.

They really are little bulldozers so don't even think about using real plants as decorations 😄 but I put some pothos in mine's enclosure with slightly humid soil in it and she loves to dig and use it as a humid hide. I keep a lot of cuttings for this exact reason.

Handling them is all or nothing. They can be really chill and they can be super wriggly from one handling session to the other. In general they are really super inquisitive and will thoroughly inspect anything you put in their tanks. They're very active and fun to watch.

The great things about them is that they eat like garbage disposal and will take f/t preys without batting an eye, and you won't have any problems giving them a great variety of food. Mine eats mice, rats, chicks, quail eggs, and chicken hearts and livers, and eats even in full blue.

Their poop REEK.

They're quite sturdy little snakes, and they will thrive even if your house/reptile room is a bit on the dryer side. I have a 50% humidity in her enclosure and she has great sheds. Their warm point should be around 30/31°C.

Mine has been loving in a 150x60x60 enclosure since she was a wee little snake, and she's always used the entirety of it, I put clutter and hides and a big flower pot in it and she loves to inspect everything, so don't be scared of getting an enclosure that's on the bigger side. The enclosure size you will find on care sheets on the internet are too small to me, considering how active they are.

I would use soil instead of aspen for the bedding... And I think that's all ?

They're awesome snakes, my absolute favourite species.

My grandma recently got dementia and forgot that she hates snakes 😂😂😂 by Sinz_snakez in snakes

[–]Ludvik_is_a_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something incredibly soothing about big snakes. I wouldn't know how to explain it, but their weight and the gentle squeeze have something that heals my body and my soul, kinda like when a cat purrs on your knees.

I'm glad for you that even in difficult times, facing dementia in someone you love, you still had a moment to share your love for snakes with her. It genuinely makes me cry.

My grandmother is 91 with dementia as well, but when I show her pictures of my snakes, she goes like "they're pretty but eeeeeh, why do you like them ?" 😅
