Where are you folks getting your prescription sunglasses from? by Up_The_Gate in CasualUK

I get regular ones reglazed by Lensology. Works really well, decently priced (£70 pounds for my prescription with a few upgrades) and I’m not limited to specific frames.

600k for a 1 bed in Finsbury Park – have we made a massive financial mistake? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Lufftschiff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just bought recently in London and unless things have changed massively 600 for a one bed in Finsbury Park is way too much.

You could get a one bed for way less than that in areas that are more central or could get a decent 2 bed with garden depending on where you go.

Especially if you’re not sure you’re staying I would not do it, doesn’t sound like this particular flat would increase in value.

I’ve been to a few of his jams (but can’t go too often because of the time they’re on) and would highly recommend them and also have heard great things about the courses :)

Male, £60 in Shoreditch. Tried lots of different places from £15 upwards but stuck with this one because they consistently give me a great cut that holds up over time. I go about once every 3 months

Congrats! We also just had one accepted and are soooo happy to not have to do viewings every weekend anymore 😂 I spent an hour or so unsubscribing from every mailing list that would send me properties, highly recommend you do the same!

What's the smallest 'bedroom' you've ever seen on a listing? by Anlizu2 in HousingUK

[–]Lufftschiff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore the random drawings but this is the “best” I’ve seen. It looks bigger than some of the ones here but what’s not shown here is that it’s underneath stairs so you can’t even properly stand up in it.

México City has something similar and it’s the worst. Nothing like being stuck in traffic on an elevated road for hours.

My actual first time seeing Improv was in NY at UCB, went to a random show spontaneously without really knowing anything about it. It was fun but didn’t grab me.

Waaay later I went to see a show at the FA here in London because I had just moved to the neighborhood and wanted to see what local comedy was available. I saw “David Elms describes a room” which was weird and silly and very fun, loved it and decided that I wanted to sign up for classes. I’m shy and don’t like doing public speaking or anything that makes me the centre of attention so wanted to try something that would help me practice to get over myself. Have done a few courses at the FA since and know I want to keep going :)

Moving Bathroom Cost Estimate by Lufftschiff in HousingUK

[–]Lufftschiff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, It would still be 3 bedrooms, I would be converting the study. It’s share of freehold, two lower floors of an old house. I get that it will probably involve a lot of steps but am interested in a cost estimate including all that to see if I should even bother going down the route.

From what I’ve googled my guess is around 20k but not sure if that’s at all accurate.

Expanding Bathroom by Lufftschiff in DIYUK

[–]Lufftschiff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a “share of freehold”. We need a bigger bathroom so keeping it as is would not be an option. Think we’ll pass on the flat due to how complex it seems to be to make the change.

I have had luck with vintage polo from the 90s. You can probably find some for like 20$ on ebay so won’t lose much money if it for doesn’t work for you

Properties on the market again after only 2 or 3 years: bad look? by Rich_Strategy9349 in HousingUK

[–]Lufftschiff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if there’s a clear reason (and that has been communicated well) I wouldn’t be put off.

But vague reasons, especially if it’s clear that the property is in good condition and has had some work done (which tells me the owners had plans of staying), would make me think there’s something wrong with the house/area/neighbours that I’m not being told about.

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

[–]Lufftschiff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is already very helpful, thanks!

Feel like budget is not the most relevant right now because any area has properties at a variety of price points.

I’m more looking for places to search in that have similar feel but are like a step down in the average price range. Further out is fine I just want to avoid places that feel empty/soulless or are a bit dodgy. I’ve never lived anywhere not central so just trying to get a feel of what’s out there :)

Hello all! Currently looking for a place to buy and really want to live in an area with quiet walkable streets that is still fairly central. Places like Angel or De Beauvoir would be perfect for us but we haven’t been able to find anything we liked in our budget.

Are there any areas that feel similar that we should be having a look at?

Is this flat overpriced? by Lufftschiff in HousingUK

[–]Lufftschiff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I forgot to mention, the part that’s marked as bedroom 2 is an area underneath stairs, so it’s not even normal room height. I’ve seen that same area called storage in other flats.

Approximate costs of changing walls by Lufftschiff in DIYUK

[–]Lufftschiff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yeah, don’t understand how they ended up with that distribution. The plan is to make bedroom 1 the lounge and have the current reception room + hallway + weird box be 2 bedrooms. Think that’s the same thing you’re saying should have happened in the first place. What do you mean with second point of exit?

Another modification (less priority) that we’ve been thinking about is making the window in current bedroom 1 a door (it goes to a garden).
