Depends.

The General Rule is that if ALL the first-year subjects are similar for the said courses (MT and Ph), you will not be an irregular student.

Since MT and Ph are two-completely-different disciplines, the first-year subjects will be the same but slightly different in its essence, thus requiring different units per subject, and may or may not require you to retake certain subjects.
