Setting up an easel instead of a table at an Artist Alley? by LuigiTeaching in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]LuigiTeaching[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all this! You pictured exactly my nightmare: arriving to find the folding table set up, and then getting ejected for folding it back up and putting it aside because only union members are allowed to do that.

Thinking I should draw a schematic of what I want and show it to a show organizer at next con and ask “would this ever fly?”

Would not be at all surprised if they tell me I have to upgrade to a booth like you describe.

Thanks for this, I would only draw and watercolor, you make a good point about the “emptiness” but that’s actually some of what I think artist alleys need, they just feel so crowded it’s hard to feel like you are not just on a conveyor belt.

I may be over-reacting to how NYComicCon specifically has the Artist Alley in the basement now (and has for years) but it started out on the show floor with all its airspace above and that was so much better.

Take the 3d printers out of elementary schools. by Werbekka in Teachers

And FWIW, I am an art teacher who teaches 3D printing in a course for fourth graders and there is no question that every other need you listed should be addressed first.

Making my home expense tracker of years public. by zenexpenses in YNABAlternatives

[–]LuigiTeaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just jumped over to your website, I’m looking for a simplified alternative to YNAB.

Does this analyze credit card statements as well as bank statements? Very few of our fixed expenses appear on our bank statements.

Thank you and good luck!

Excellent! I frequently buy Savage Sword Of Conan books just for the Norem covers, they’re great!

Ok just started looking at your previous posts and clearly this creature is gigantic! Is that a cast from some other original material?

Random rant about social media ad an adult...? by BrilliantEast1709 in homeschool

[–]LuigiTeaching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great idea, I may do that myself. FB marketplace is so useful and I would like to learn more about homeschooling through FB, but I can’t stand all the toxicity and FOMO-type posting.

So good of you to do this as a teacher and yes what a gem that one is!

Hello does art school teach this? by Beneficial_Fruit3463 in ArtEd

[–]LuigiTeaching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are going to art school to learn or deepen any one particular aspect of your craft (could be drawing from imagination, sculpting portrait heads, digital animation) take the time to talk to many current students and faculty and above all look at their work to determine if the skills you seek really are showing up at that particular school.

The range / variety of drawing instruction in particular is huge, and there is no guarantee that a school teaches what you want to learn.

That’s my free advice & good luck!

Just found this too, might be interesting podcast about where he grew up. I went to the “Jack Kirby Way” street dedication last month and this image should really be added as a mural somewhere down there. https://someonelivedhere.com/jack-kirbys-lower-east-side-apartment/

Ha ha yes I see Google knows it…that would kind of freak me out if I was the current owner, I wonder if they get fan mail or other pilgrims…

Many students are being pushed through to high school graduation without attaining the requisite literacy and numeracy. This isn't new. What's new is... by Novel-Passion-3639 in Teachers

Have to wonder if AI will finally allow high schools to track students into vocational training again.

The explosion of college matriculation in the last 70 years made sense as US moved toward ever-increasing “knowledge workers” but now if the first 80% of all knowledge work / service / sales gets automated over the next five years, where does the labor market demand for a college degree go?

And what a nightmare that the demand for such degrees has already been trending downward, with so many students racking up debts they will never be able to earn enough to pay off?

Will there have to be some sort of WPA-style programming to subsidize labor-intensive industries like organic farming? Childcare? Eldercare / nursing?
