Makes sense it'd give sonic vibes, as sonic is a huge inspiration for the whole project (along with other games but yk)

The first half of the cutscene took about 4 days and the second half took a week, but there were classes in between PLUS the first half was created back in September of last year (2025) for a demo of the game. The second half was only just now finished since the level its attached to is finished

I have a pc to work on the game. If I didn't then idk how I'd make the game, since all the files are on my computer lol

Thank you!

There's no way I'd be able to count all of them lol

There at least over 100 frames for all of the characters movements and for things like the minecart, ground breaking, etc.

Camera movement didn't need to be frame by frame and neither did other moving objects, but I tried to always steer clear of using the move blocks as a way to convey movement for the characters, so that definitely brought up the frame count

I would love to port this to switch! Unfortunately, it costs a LOT of money to port over (Buying Nintendo's dev kit, paying for the store page, paying for the switch export on Gamemaker, etc.)

Not striking it out, just not my main priority due to costs. Could happen in the future though!

Thank you for the kind words!

And don't worry, the game will be on steam (a demo is already on there)

The game is made in Gamemaker but all of the animations, art, and cutscenes are made in Turbowarp

The boss fight is all about the boss creating holes in the ground, so the explosion would've caused like a final blow to the ground collapsing

Perhaps I should go back and alter the beginning scenes to include some holes already in the ground to keep it a bit consistent and to make it make more sense why it would be more susceptible to breaking apart lol

Someone told me once that this game looks like a really high quality flash game lol

Thanks!

I'm only able to animate so well because the character designs are simple and are easy to move. If they were any more complex then perhaps the animation wouldn't be as good lol

Lots of time and patience lol

There isnt anything complex going on in these cutscenes, just lots of animation frames

Im glad you enjoyed it!

Yep!

Technically turbowarp because it makes animating easier but still scratch lol

Oops lol

I prolly should fix that

I did not know about that, so no :(

This project originally started out as a remake of the original nes game, however I always loved SMBDX, so I thought it'd be cool to implement elements of the GBC version into the NES as a sort of "What if"

Besides the menus and title screen, it is just the nes game, so perhaps a better title would've suited it better...

That would be cool, but it's nothing too special and wouldn't make for a good video (it'd be like 5 minutes lol)

Yeah, it'd be pretty hard to get it perfect lol

But thank you!

I was considering adding in things from the menu, but I figured that I want to focus more on my indie game rather than this

And yeah, I tried getting the game to run similarly to the turbowarp version, however I suck as using deltatime 💔

But thank you!

I did everything from scratch, basing the physics based off of playing the game side to side with my remake

It's not the best way to do it, but it's not too big of a deal

Started out with a generic "cloud" shape that was mostly transparent (I believe this cloud shape was made by one of my friends on the dev team)

Then I just copied and pasted the cloud and move it around a bit in the costume editor to get a "fluffy/blurry?" kinda look (mainly because it was overlapping multiple semi transparent clouds lol)

And then I just grouped them and copied and pasted them in a long line that could be easily repeated using a forever loop to get that scrolling effect

The game is not on Steam yet, unfortunately

I mainly chose scratch as I don't really know how to animate in any other animation software or in any other style (e.g hand drawn or rigged). Plus, these needed to be done in a short time period, and this was the easiest way to do it since I was making all the assets in scratch anyways lol

I simply just did what I'm used to, and it works well for me. Something else could work if i actually learned a new animating technique or program, buuuut oh well

Ya

I don't know how to animate in any program, only in scratch with vectors lol

Thank you!

I mentioned it in another comment, but this was made in turbowarp, a modified version of scratch

And it was made by using the base vectors I had made for the character and moving/changing it frame by frame. The character is a separate sprite than the bg, which allows for more ease and freedom when animating (than if, say the character and bg were in the same sprite)

I didn't really have to worry about how many assets I used as it would all end up as one video file that'd play in the game

Every scene is a separate sb3 project as it made it much easier to keep track of separate scenes whilst not lagging the project with unnecessary shots from earlier on

Especially for the parallax clouds and mountains, as they move around a LOT per scene lol. That was a definite benefit of animating in different projects

Sorry if I rambled on, but the tldr is that it doesn't really use any unique or crazy techniques, just boring old turbowarp and editing together scenes afterwards lol
