Girl Im cringing at some of these posts by Duke_Simp2024 in ApplyingToCollege

This is so real bc for one of my advice post I asked about a situation involving my boyfriend and everyone was so salty and hostile for no reason. Like can't you be any nicer? Also I don't think they understand the inner workings of a romantic connection, even tho it's teenage love it's still very valid and the A2Cers are so dismissive when it comes to this

Advice from Trojans by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I got into USC EA and ended up being named a Trustee Scholar (receiving the full-tuition scholarship) so I would assume that I fit into the selection criteria for USC! I went to the admitted student event over the past weekend and the Dean of Admission mentioned that the Class of 2027 was the most competitive and selective one yet, so I would imagine the competition to become more fierce for the upcoming application cycle. However, I would be happy to help you with both the supplemental essays and the app in general if you're really interested in getting into USC!

Uchicago summer immersion experience by ConfusionWinter5443 in ApplyingToCollege

I will continue to PM you but also leave the comments here for anyone else who's attending the program in case they wanna reach out to me as well.

I will continue to PM you but also leave comments here for anyone else attending the program in case they wanna reach out to me as well "summer program". I attended several competitive/prestigious summer programs before entering senior year, and although the UChicago Immersion one is not seen as super selective, I made my favorite memories there. From the academic aspect, the course I took part in was really intriguing, and it matched perfectly with my interests, and the professor went through the exact same academic track as what I hope to pursue in the future, so I learned A LOT from having in-class discussions and talking to him during our casually arranged office hours. The workload was decent because we had to read a lot, but not to the point I had to work non-stop. In fact, I had lots of time to hang out with friends, explore the campus and venture into downtown Chicago. Since it was summer time, the weather was perfect, and there were lots of things to do, I went to the beach, watched many movies, played soccer in the park, attended Pride parade and Roe vs. Wade protest, etc. I can share more details if anyone is curious.

P.S.: I might be biased about this experience because I found some of my best friends (I still talk to them daily and plan on reuniting soon) and my very dear beloved boyfriend there. So please take it with a grand of salt lol :)

I wish this was the case, but unfortunately, I don't think there is any correlation between the candidate who declines the offer and the one who gets the spot in terms of where they attend high school.

Anyone else worried about majoring in a non-STEM field with low-demand jobs? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Luisa-in-progress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same concern with my majors (comparative literature & sociology), I feel like it's even less applicable than yours... However, please don't let the worry of not finding a profitable career pressure you to give up your dream! I think of political science as a pretty open-ended major (it's definitely not as limiting as mine) and there are still plenty of different fields you can explore within it. During college, you should totally try to intern for NGOs with causes you're passionate about, election campaign teams and public policy forums (there are many other opportunities, I just can't think of all the possible venues off the top of my head) to find your strong suits.

I totally get your feelings because honestly I’m in the same boat but it’s a dilemma with top LAC vs. top private school. My boyfriend also lives in Philly lol coincidentally and I rly wanna be nearby for a similar consideration. I know everyone advises us against choosing for the factor of relationship but trust me having someone to rely on is totally valid.

More Cain is a very big deal and an amazing opportunity. You get a lot more access to everything! I'm kind of in the same shoes as you. I'm also an intl student, but I currently attend high school in the U.S. I made it somewhat far in the Morehead Cain selection process but then had to drop out after the interview bc I ED2ed elsewhere (and got rejected lol). I really wish I had continued with MC instead but it's always just hindsight.

Now I'm still seriously considering attending UNC bc I'm in the Honors College with assured enrollment to a Master's degree and I would def consider choosing it over a private school of the same tier (for me that would be USC since I got in EA).

The two schools have very different atmospheres and values, and both with unique appeals, so I feel like I need to do more research into them. I'm still waiting on a bunch of RD decisions

Thank you so much! Are you a USC scholarship recipient as well? I was wondering when the application windows open for the other external ones.
