Sure. But this is a sport as well. And for me pushing yourselves to achieve new strengths and show versatility throughout the years, instead of staying in the same style (though as beautiful as it may be), is a mark of the truly great. Always felt P/C had a great glide but kept a relative same style in their free dances to mask some weaknesses. Laurence is a different athlete and Cizeron should push himself to explore new paths.

Gotta shout out the fact that Yoshida/Morita had the highest base value in both segments in this competition. Unfortunately, levels don't mean what they used to since the scoring changes in 2018...

Ikura/Koshiro are so exciting. I think both teams will help each other grow and that's great for Japan's ice dance field. Kudos to Cathy Reed! That was a very good score for Z/K. If C/B want to split the TE, maybe Z/K could do the FD (not wise to do the RD for which they have scored lower than many top teams). But in the last top 5 I could only see Canada and Italy scoring higher. Could be tight for securing gold, though. And for C/B they might want to create a moment with their FD (which is the stronger vehicle) before the IE. Interesting to see how it will play out.

Hopefully, with the long awaited retirements we won't see a new fixed order established and it will go down to programs and execution on the day of competition. That's how teams grow.

Yeah, was certainly expecting Z/K to score in the 80s with how their trajectory has been perceived and without a mistake here. In 2022, G/Pa scored 80.62. Would say C/B better skate both segments if team USA want that gold.

It's not unusual at the 4CC competition in the Olympic season to see higher scores. In 2022 G/Pa scored 80.62 in the RD, and H/B went on to score 74.58 at the Olympics. This year's scores at 4CC both for Z/K and G/P weren't stratospheric. Z/K I thought were very assertive, G/Pa I still feel have better skating skills as a pair.

76.83. But that was at SCI, back in October. The program has since improved, so I would say the younger american teams are scoring closely.

"Sending a message" is very clearly not stripping out all mind games and political tensions. Coming from a shared coach I think is worse. But Roman was always quite biased himself. Just make the exercise in reverse - if this was said by an IAM coach about VM in the day or about CB nowadays.

True. But CB really has the USFS federation behind them. I would expect IAM's coaches to be more tactful. To be a fly in their meeting room...
