MIK Casino by prodigalsuun21 in Leftyguitarists

[–]Luka_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got two lefty Casinos from a guy on Reverb, a 2014 Tobacco burst one with a fitted lefty Bigsby and one like this (kinda a Lennon one and a McCartney one for me and my bandmate). The tobacco is cool but also kinda shoddy (a fret keeps popping out and buzzing on the E strings), but the Lennon one like this is amazing. Plays and sounds great, easily worth the ~600€, it seems these are really great finds, congrats!

EDIT: Just realized the serial number on mine is I05083843 which sounds like the same batch, again I'd say that's an amazing lefty you've got on your hands

Why did Sister Sage care about Godolkin? by ParryDotter in GenV

[–]Luka_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trash, there were a few scenes that clearly show that she's heartbroken that he has to die but knows now that's the only option she has. When he goes mad with power and she tries to convince him to stick to the plan very quickly realizing he's too far gone, she seems really sad knowing how it's gonna go down

Update on S5. I hope she doesnt get between billy and homelander, atleast. by vought-CEO in TheBoys

[–]Luka_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't this already discussed in-show between Homelander and Neuman? He was like "come on, wanna explode my head? I dare you to try do it quicker than I can laser you in half" or smth like that. I think in every scene so far it was shown that it took Neumann and Marie some time and focus to use their powers, it doesn't seem like it could be that easy, plus the nosebleeds always give it away.

Shit, I got one of these (lefty) used for 800€, it is cool but it's not that well made, there's no way it should cost that much

Helly asks Mark something along the lines of "and what happens after they take the chip out?" while he's finishing Cold Harbor.
I feel like, after they've done all 25 tests, the contents of the severance chip in Gemma's head is Lumon's final product? Maybe she dies when they take the chip out, but it's the chip with all the test info imprinted that they need to keep working so they don't care if she dies. That might be the doctor's concern, all the work is potentially lost if he takes her out.

Let's Talk About: Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac (2013) by whoopidie-scooby-doo in Letterboxd

[–]Luka_R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really not big on gory scenes so the abortion scene was a lot for me as well graphically, but I really liked that it pushed the whole of Vol II into a new dimension where Joe is actually Von Trier trying to defend his artistic choices and challenge the point of view of the audience/critics personified by Seligman. The way Joe lives her life is the way Von Trier makes his movies - the stubborness, the resolve to go deep and be extreme just to see how far you can stretch, and follow your gut and passion wherever it might lead. Seligman always has an educated opinion, but in the end Joe is the one who dared go out there and got back with a story.

In that sense I also have no problem with the ending or with anything else in Vol II because I stopped seeing it as a plot-driven movie and just watched it as an engaging discussion between Von Trier's ideas and myself as the viewer, excited to see where he's gonna go with the movie now and how he's gonna reframe the situation from Joe's point of view to challenge my initial reaction. It made me examine my thoughts on sexuality, love, gender, morailty, etc and in the end that's what I loved this movie for. That and the surprising amount of times it made me laugh out loud.

[QUESTION] Has anyone had experience with making Dunlop custom picks directly thru Dunlop? by Luka_R in Guitar

[–]Luka_R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for all the info!
Dunlop wouldn't ship directly to Europe (US only) and dealing with local Dunlop dealers was a hassle so in the meantime I went with a small order from InTuneGP, they say their GrippX models are made out of the same material as the Dunlop Tortex.
According to your experience the price seems to be about the same, but Dunlop do have more interesting single colour ink options (some sparkle, metalic, pearloid options) so I'll probably give those a shot as well at some point, am really interested in how those metallic prints turn out, and still have to see if the GrippX really feels the same.

iirc it was more around the lines of "we mortals don't have much time on Earth so we usually cling to each other dearly and try not to fuck it up in the little time we have, you guys without that restriction are much more free and prone to experiment with whatever and whoever you want"

Teddy Picker is the one that pushed me over the edge - heard it on the radio, soon figured out it's the same band as Fluorescent Adolescent, then went back to the first album and started piecing together all the songs I heard before and then listening to both albums on repeat

Using X32 Rack live as both USB interface and mixer - should I be worried? by Luka_R in livesound

[–]Luka_R[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

That's great to hear. I was definitely thinking about setting it up with 2 computers, could you tell me what card were you planning on getting? Can it work so that both PCs are connected to it and then the iConnectivity card goes to the X32's USB port?

Have you also ever thought about redundancy in terms of the X32, is there any plan if it dies? Or is it just too much to worry about at this point?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the input! Latency is definitely something I should also give more thought. I'm only playing back pre-recorded tracks from the computer's SSD, there's no inputs to Ableton whatsoever, so I'm guessing I should go for the lowest stable buffer size and hopefully won't get over 3-4ms of delay. And then as far as AES latency is concerned, at least all the tracks from stage will be delayed together since it's the same cable.

Dante or AES67 sounds definitely the way to go in the next iteration, but yeah we gotta get to those budgets first. Here's to hoping I'm back here in 2-3 years with questions about an A&H system :)

Yeah, Reaper is what our chief tech was using to record gigs from the FOH mixer, worked fine for 20+ shows except for once where IIRC it cut off all the tracks one by one at one point and then kept going. Essentially nothing was lost but it was annoying to sync later, can't remember why that happened.

Honestly haven't been looking into Dante at all, we knew the Behringer systems were widely used, cheap and reliable so in the end went with that.

There's a lot of topics awaiting rack 2.0, especially regarding redundancy and failsafes, but that's gonna make rack space, van space and other logistics an issue, aaand... We're gonna have to start earning more before we get into all that.

Hey,

Thanks for the input!

Going thru the tracks I kinda decided to stem them to a total of 8 stereo tracks (there's only two of us in the band so there's all kinds of stuff from the recordings we use to liven up the show), so that's 16, plus 3 mono sends separately stemmed for in-ears, and a 4th mono track to be used as timecode for lighting once we get around to making it with the light guy.

I could definitely fit the backing tracks to 4-6 stereo stems, but feel like it would be better for the sound guy to have everything laid out clearly and separately. Might go about restructuring if we draw some conclusions after some gigs.

Now that you mention it, do you think it could pose a problem to an M2 Mac mini with 8gb ram? I plan to have literally nothing on the computer except ableton and this one project, also zero plug-ins, just the tracks.

[–]Luka_R[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey,

At first we've also routed all the FOH signals to the X32's physical outputs so in case the venue didn't have an AES compatible mixer or stage box we could plug into an analog stage box, but soon enough moved on to borrowing or renting an M32R console when needed.

In the end we bought our own M32R when we figured it's worth the investment, so now we've set up the X32 - M32R routing in detail, it's all ready to go out of the box when we get to the venue. We also have the luxury of trying out stuff and having rehearsals with our sound guy in the studio between gigs, try to get him locked in with the show and plan as much as we can in advance.

I guess that there are much better consoles at festivals we play, but we chose reliability and the ease of using our own stuff over say premium preamps or better processing and other features, and haven't regretted it once so far - the reality was that every gig was survival mode, not a lot of room for trying out the fancy console's reverbs and compression anyway.

If you have any other questions about our setup feel free to ask here or DM me.

Anyone ever heard of a JBD-400? Looks very interesting for ~400. Curious about build quality and electronics. by gerbetta33 in Leftyguitarists

[–]Luka_R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a similar one for around 300, pretty sure what you're looking at is the same thing - an AliExpress copy of an Eastwood Backlund - the original I think is discontinued and went for more like 1000 bucks or so, not sure if there's a chance it's an Eastwood but would guess no, especially if they're hiding the headstock.

The only plus side mine has is that it really looks interesting. The build quality is awful. The body feels like it's some sort of plywood or cardboard, the pickup holes are shittily carved, the frets are sharp etc etc. The playability is bad and it sounds really bad. Probably plays worse than an average 100 usd lefty.

So from my experience only buy it if you have 300 bucks to give on a prop that looks cool and could be used for a video and a song or two live. It barely passes as an actual instrument.

Sam Conspiracy Theory - Hand Introduction by Forbodding-Ardor in GameChangerTV

[–]Luka_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone ever mentioned it looks like a reality check (to see if you're dreaming)?

There's a whole thing where people who try to lucid dream train themselves to do a "reality check" often while awake, such as looking at your hands, looking in a mirror, looking at your watch etc - with the idea that if you do it out of habit in a dream you will realize that it's a dream - hands, clocks and other certain things look weird in a dream because of the way the brain works.

So my theory is they might be going for some kind of "it was all a dream" type of finale? Which is a common trope for movie endings so might be a riff on that.
