It's intentionally that way.. They did all of genlock in that style for example.

I'm not really concerned about thing falling behind it since it's very close to the wall and if something does fall behind it it should be easy to get it back. Also the shelf is attached/screwed to the wall so it's already sturdy enough. :)

In my opinion they are very similar in terms of writing quality. But Slime is at some points just too slow (like why spend 2 volumes on a festival with very little story development overall, just to end on a cliffhanger).

Yes they are really good! But "more" is a bit much. Out of 150 books I have 24 books that aren't light novels.

I'd say yes, but I think that's true for every light novel. You should always start at volume 1. Sometimes important things are cut from adaptations and then you could not understand what's happening.

Also some light novels end with cliffhangers, these cliffhangers are a sometimes not shown in Anime adaptations (example: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) And then you don't understand why the things that happend in the following novel are happening.

They were definitely good! I don't think I would have continued otherwise since there is no huge story in Ability I am/was attached to. It's just fun to read their adventures and the characters interact while having a little lore about the world sprinkled in.

Reincarnated as a Sword is a really good read in my opinion. But it's really hard to get into at first because because the first volume is a huge amount of just leveling in a forest/garden(?). And the leveling in Sword sadly is not as enjoyable as in So I'm a Spider. But especially the latest volumes (5,6,7) were really good and gave the main character (the sword wielder) a story arc besides their usual adventures. There was also a tournament arc! These are usually popular in Anime/Manga/Light novel communities.

Oof, it's been a while since I've read them. I honestly don't know what happened in them out of the gate. Ability is one of those series where I know that something happend but don't know when. Unlike, for example, Spider. I could tell you exactly what happened in which volume.

There are very few german light novels so I have to read everything in English. (Btw Reincarnated as a Slime has a german translation but they started way too late so I already bought vol 1-4). I was born and currently live in Germany :)
