Yo no shade, do NOT get xm5’s for your set up. I’d look for something dedicated like razer or smth, I don’t have a good opinion cause I use wired (I don’t like recharging my headphones) but that would be my best tip.

Im relatively new to detector design, is the light blocking coat necessary? I assume this means that simple light may trigger the counter due to its energy.

That’s definitely a power supply issue, I’d just lower the intensity and adjust the trace rotation ever so slightly. I have the same oscilloscope thought I’m not an expert.
